No sooner had Keener and Scott begun a battle for second than Keener was out with a dead magneto. Scott lasted to lap 14 when his engine blew , The two retirements moved Aldana up to third behind Springer and ahead of Hocking, Goss, Morehead. Jorgensen, and Boody. Eves, with oil leaking on his rear wheel . was slipping quickly backward. The top five spots were set from lap 15 on with Morehead crashing on lap 18 in tum on e and dropping to 11th place. Brow never backed off or looked back.
