Unadilla race had all indic ations of being another Chuck Sun benefit as the Husqvama rider pulled off holeshots in both motos .an d seemed ab le to carry them all the way to the checkered flag. That, however, was not in the cards. Mark Barnett, riding the Moto -X Fox RM250 , kept Sun in his sights all day long, waiting for the sm allest weakness or trace of bad luck to show . Mark seemed capable of holding an y pace that Chuck cared to set , but he didn't seem anxious to press the point by putting on some hard pressure. After staying with Sun for the first moto, Barnett's opportunity came only two laps from the end of the final race. Sun 's Husky spit its chain, and while Chuck rerailed the offending pan a very happy Mark Barnett rolled in the overall winner. John Savitski earned what was probably the hardest-fought third place in MX history. John tangled with another rider at the stan of the first moto, restarted midpack, then blasted his way up to take th ird at the flag . ound two saw Savitski take his Bevo Forte tuned FMF Suzuki off the line in 10th place and then battle with Yamaha 's Mike Bell in a down-to-thewire race for third place . The pair crossed the line WFO in a photo finish (Savitski in front) , but John found he couldn't make the tum following the finish line . Instead, he laid the bike down and plowed into a wooden fence , unhurt , to win his third spot overall. Bell , with a 4-4 score, would have taken third had he beaten Savitski . Mike stay ed solid in founh . 4 Rounding out the top five, Denny Swanz made two come-from- behind runs on his Maico for a 5·9 fifth overall. Hard luck knocked Kenny Zahrt, fifth in round two, out of a top placing when his Bultaco quit near the end of round one while riding th ird. Kawasaki's Terry Clark, likewise , ~as riding well, but chain throwing , prob lem s kept him from doing business. • Results 50llcc INTERNATIONAl: 1. Roger DeCoster. 1-2 ISuzl.2.
