The main was something else and Lawson had it off the line with Summers a close second and Da n McWhorter third. Mike Tidwell got underneath McW horter on the third lap, about the same time McWhorter's bike went sou r. On th e sixth lap problems struck Tidwell and , he was out. Rob Selvy took over third and the front runners held positi on to the white flag when bad luck ca ugh t up with Su mmers and forced him out. Selvy collected the second place spot and dough with Terry Singlet on in for th ird. Back in winning fo rm , T idwell made short work of Gary Jones in the Money TT. It was Tidwell's race all th e way and Jones look ed for the.; mistake that never came. Tidwell and Lawson had one heck of a good go in the 250 Expert half mile. It was T idwell out on top in the 10-la p main with Lawson in second. Danny Perkins was th ird. It was five laps before Lawson ca ught Tidwell and then , Mike just couldn't find a hole big enough to take a shot at Lawson and ended the evening wit h a second. Perkins , looking good fo r being sidelined since the first of J uly, was third . Eddie Drake had everything come together for h im in the 250 Amateur/Expert TT and he held off Gary Jones for the win with Tom Walton collecting the show money. Chris Cannon a nd Bobby Garabedian shared t he 125 Amateur/Expert honors . Bobby got off on top in the TT and led it for two before Cannon got his wheel under him to take over the lead and bring it home for the win . Eddie Drake pla yed it safe in third . It was a match race on th e half mile between Garabedian and Cannon . ThiS time it was Garabedian's tum and the- youngster really let it hang out. Cannon, who was really after him , blew his engine on the fourth lap and the victory was Garabedian's, Results in Results Section . Fish wins series; Lunde defeats Ascot bounty hunters By Rico GARDENA , CA . SEPT. 29 brother with Denton and T urner finishing in that order. . The second moto ha d De nton pulling out the ho leshot and holding on to his lead up the last lap. It was then that Denton, being pushed hard by Lunde and Turner. dropped his bike letting Tim Lunde skate by for a sure overall victory. Once again the Red ondo Beach rider was able to cool the jets of the large crowd of bounty hunters, the fast est of those being his own brother Chuck who pulled in the second place money. Rick Blackwell pulled a Penton out of mothballs and rode to th ird place overall. The 125 Pro race was go od publicity for the FMF factory as their sponsored riders Gregg Toyama and Ron Turner finished first and second respectively. Toyama smoked the field as he sprinted away from any challenge throughout both motos. A crowd pleasing battle for second between Turner and Lunde went down to the wire in both motos , Turner being able to edge Lu nde at the finish line twice for a second place overall. SEPT. 24 a _After running away with both motos of last week's first half of the Women's Autumn Cham - . pionship series , Yamaha rider H igh School Motocross started new season amidst the gleam of new leathers, boo ts, bikes and spirits . There were 30 schools Sue Fish was the track favorite for an overall vic to ry. Crown C ycle· ' sponsored Fish pulled holeshots in both m otos th is week but victory wasn 't secure until the wave of the c hec ke red nag because Suzuki moun ted De De Cates gave it every thi ng she had . pushing Fish t h r o ug ho u t both motos, placing second in the first rnoto and never more than a bike length behind in the second moto until a costly error brought her and her bike skidding to a halt late in the race . Care's fall let Barbara Spielman slip into seco nd overall. A bounty of over $75 was offered by Ch ris Agaj anian to any 250 Pro rid er tha t could beat Tim Lu nde. A gate full of 250 Pros were on hand to race but no o ne was q uite up to the task of bea ting the YZ rider. Lund e jumped out to an early lead ' in rnoto one followed closely by his Maico-mounted brother C huck. Suzuki ace Ga r y Denton and FMF ·sponsored "Rad ica l" Ron Turner. As the moto continued. Tim Lunde pulled away from the pack winning convincingly' ahead of his represented with 16 motos filling th e da y with competition from mini s to t he o pe n class. The format was changed onl y minutely with the new CMC affiliation . . The competition was ready as shown in the style of Ron Tebbs (Ca lif. High ) . as he dominated the Open Pro class on a Husky. The skill of Mark Darnell (Cerritos). on board a Suzuki. left the field far behind in the first rnoto for the 125 Intermediates. The second moto was a sensational repeat of the first and earned a first overall for Mark. Mike Graham (San Dim as) took a first overa ll riding a Suzu ki in the 125 J uni or class after finishing second in both motos. - T he com bined 250 a nd Open J unior class ha d a rough start on thei r second moto. After a first turn pile u p , the race was red flagged and it took two more starts before the ra ce was completed. After the first day. results show Cerritos (2A ) with a wide lead over Gahr (4A ) with Newport Harbor (5A) falling in third . Results in Results Section. •
