"I never saw a soul for th e first two laps ." said Lynch, who won by four m inutes over Danny Garrett (390 Hus) . The only traffice Lynch (who started on the first row ) encountered was lapped riders. Jeff H ylton (250 Hus) passed loads of open bikes (the big bore machinery started first ) to finish third overall and first in class . In fourth was Woody Childers Jr. , whose 400 Yamah came up with a rear flat on the third loop and tore the tire to shreds on the final lap, finishing with only the sidewalls' intact. Mike Capello (250 KTM), Ron' Chuba (390 Hus), Phil Galdi (400 Yam), a nd Lee Galloway (360 Hus) finished fifth through eighth. In ninth was th e first Junior/Senior (30-4 0 yrs.), Paul Baker , who rode a Ma ico equ ip ped with a fai ring. Bon ne ville record holder On Saturday, th ree 60 'mile ra ces were run . The 0·200 Novices were led for the first two loops by Jeff Heth ( 175 Yam). Heth threw a chain on the last loop and dropped to fifth . Michael Bruno ( 175 KTM ), who was catching Heth on a tim e basis anyway, took the win. But he was only 22 seconds in front of Mik e Spano ( 125 Yam). Lome Crawford (Yam ) . Scott Atchison (Yam) , Heth ,'Bili Rigo (Yam) , and Joe Zuidema (Ya m ) filled the top seven spots. Debbie Duncan (250 Su z) was th e wire-to-wire leader in th e women 's Division class. Lori Farmer started nea rly a quarter mil e behind th e p ack after her 250 Bu lta co loaded up off the line. By th e end of the secon d loop she was p ressin g Du ncan . Ivan Summers (400 Yam ) won the Senior Novice cla ss, finish ing l l th overall, two positio ns in front of Duncan. Ric hard Hurt (400 Ya m) , fa ther of Sunday runner ·up Doug Hurt , finished second senior . In t he 250 /0pen Beginner race. S. D. Wheeler and Dan Miller (400 Yam) had a good race going. The winner was decided on the last loop whe n Wheeler had a quicker pit. The di fferen ce turned out to be 24 seconds. Wheeler also topped the Junior/Senior class. Larry Allred (KTM) took the 250 class by finishing third , less than a mi nute behind the leader. World speed re cord holder Warner Riley traded h is sa lt lak e H a rley for a 370 Suzu ki and finished fourth overall. J immy Donaldson (250 Yam), Chris Lynn (250 Su z), a nd Roger Sch midt (390 H us) co mpleted the top seven. Pete Wi llis too k a little 125 Suzuki to top honors in the Senior Begi n ner class . ahead of Lowell Milton (400 Yam). In the first race of the weekend , Larry Scott finally struck it ' b ig , winning the 0·200 Beginner event: Scott trained specially for the event and had a custom- made, 32·tQoth rear sprocket. Though he admitted being outrun in the whoop-de-des, Scott had the top end and advanced from fou rth to the lead, taking _it on the long straight right before the fin ish . T he 20·mile course was much th e sa me as the DRA event held the previous Ma y. Largel y fireroad , th ere was one section of well -thrash ed whoops that differed from th e May course and rem inded riders they were . not at a ro a d race. As usual , the course was'very dusty and riders in later rows had to wait until the pavement started before they could see anything. One course change was made Sunday afternoon when a lot of th e no vice ra cers cut one corner. Jerry McN eal , CRC President , decided to cha nge the course to th e shorter route foll owed that morning .
