Aksland pulled a slingshot on Scott down th e backstraight (" Don't th ink I d idn't try to slingshot him ba ck ," sai d Hank later. ) a nd held the lead to win by a few feet. Kidd lost third place to Springste en (who had a bad sta rt , "The bike woul dn't shift") in th e fourt h corner. "H e got side ways comin g off an d I passed him ," sai d Sp ri nger. "He [Kid d] said, 'I don't know what happened, it just ha p pened: " related Kidd 's sponsor Mert Lawwill after th e nic e. "He got sideways off a couple of corners and lost his drive."
