CA, SE PT . 17 Sa turday night wrapped lip the outdoor short track season by the North Bay M.C. at the Chris Beck" Arena. Steve Hammerich won the 100 Mini Main with Charlie Venegas second and David Maggetti third. The annual North Bay M .C . club members race at intermission was won by Dick Corriera , who called on some of his old class "C" experience to show that he can still get around . His "trophy" was a pizza courtesy of Straw Hat Pizza. Craig Russ tried too hard to catch 200 Novice winner Tom Castagnola Jr. and sampled the fine Santa R osa cushion while Tom Castagnola Sr. motored by in pursuit of his son. Dana Fletcher and Tony Deatherage showed what close racing is all about with Tony D. edging out Dana. Art Slocum and Joe Co ggi ns rounded out the top spots. . 'Colorfu l school teacher Be n Whittaker landed in the hospital after a fa ll in the 250 J un ior Main and we hope his collarbone heals quickly. Bob McConnell went on to win with Rick Ke r ri g a n . Bill McConnell an d Ed Perry close beh ind . Fe n n , Pe rvie r and Gary Rossi , scra tc hed fo r the 250 Expert cash with Fe nn edging ou t Ga ry with a last tu rn pass. Br ia n Pecore and T im Skov followed. The 360 J unior race saw Ken Wilson do an aerobatic act, land on his feet and valiantly tty, tll c~tch the pac~ Ie?, by Kent McConnell, Rick Vassallo and La rry Nerison. Phenotnenal Fenn Pervier was in front before the end of lap one and left no thing bu t a rooster tail for the rest of the pack. Jim J epsen . looking good of late, took second with steady Ed Hausmann third . Resu lts in Results Section. Cantaloupi, Heiberger & Shultz 0 SPECTRa Don Ferraro holeshot the first Sacramento 125 Expert mota and won it. but Donnie Cantaloupi took the overall. . New jumped to the lea d again in the second moto but Bill Rowland fell in the first turn . Kenny was pulling away and appeared to have the race in the bag when his front wheel washed out in a fast sweeper. Craig Lowrie then quickly moved into a lead which he held to the finish. Mike LaMarche took the overall with a second combined with his first moto third . Low rie took second with Ruckman third overall. Jacobson (Suz) was untouchable in the 250 Pro class , dominating both motos from start to finish. Mogan David La Pierre (Suz) combined a pair of seconds for the same overall with Dan Brown (Bul) third. Andy "T oo t" Tudor demolished the 250 Intermediate class for the sixth race in a row . Toot said he was going after Mike Bell's win record, but this may be difficult because he will be riding pro class at the next race. Resu lts in Results Section. 0 .... SEPT. 18 Boss MX opened the second motocross track at Sacramento County's O ff H ighway Vehicle Park, and chose to do it on a challenging " N atu ra l terrain" co urse. The 1.5-mile track takes advantage of hills and gullies. and was even arranged to offer shade trees in strategically located spectator areas. Most of the riders liked the course, and surelyJ erome Heiberger (Mai) will come ba ck from Sa n J ose to ride it again. Heiberger went away somewha t wea lthier by winning the 250 Experts and taking second in the Open Experts. Donnie Canta loupi (Yam) took the top money in the 125 Expert class. In the first moto, Canraloupi started near the tail end of the 28-man pack and blitzed up to a third place finish . Neal Snarr (Yam) and Tay Gra~ (Suz) were the early leaders. Don Ferraro (Su z) and Dan Turner passed Gragg by to pursue Snarr. Snarr's lead looked safe until he crashed in " Dry Bone Culch. ' coming over the dropoff too fast to turn . He was about in 10th place when he got going again . Ferraro inherited the lead with Turner posing a serious threat. Coming down from the final "Alpine" ridge to the finish line Ferraro held out but Gragg lost his third to Cantaloupi in a near photo finish . Turner was in there for the second and Mike Marquez (Suz) took fourth. . Snarr and Ma rquez ca me away from the start of the second moto in the lead. but at the end of the second lap , the pack was still close . the front section crowded, and Cantaloupi had copped the lead. Things started to loosen u p as Canta loupi went way out front , and Snarr started dropping off the ' pace after Turner and Marquez got by him , but moved back in to a tight fight for third against Marquez , taking over the position in the last lap .
