Burbenk, CA 91505 213-766-6101 Rumors has it that for a week before the National at Mt . View MX Park, that the Oregon Old Timers held their rain dance to conjure'up' that secret weapon of theirs - called mud. Meanwhile up north in apple country they had sent a spy (not the apple with the same name, but the . other kind) and he did his job well. Washington's crack MX mud team showered the Oregon team with muddy rooster feathers and snatched the team cup from Oregon. . The following day, more falling rain. It was decided unanimously that the day should be cut to one race for each class. This was- the big one for the riders because this was for individual trophies. In the masters class a Canadian rider came down from the north to steal the show and give the 80 other moved to second followed by Jones, Rod Casper (Yam), and Bob Klemp (Suz ). Pat Jacobson (Suz) failed to get his usual holeshot but shot up to Pomeroy with no trouble. The two riders were closing on Anderson when he crashed at the bottom of the hill , sending them all down. Pomeroy was the first one up and he cruised to an easy victory. Jacobson captured second with Jones in third. Pat- Jacobson and Ron Pomeroy . quickly got out in front in the second moto . Ron kept his Yammie wide open on the downhills trying to keep Pat in sight. The pounding finally got to his bike .as the rear wheel started coming apart on the seventh lap. Ron was forced to sl ow , dropping him to seventh . and out of the big money. Anderson rode a super race finishing second behind Jacobson . Bill Jones took third and got second place money. I The best racing of the day occured in the 125 Intermediate class. Ken New (Yam) and Bill Rowland (Suz) prov~d to be the top two riders as they battled for the lead. Rowland took the win by 10 bike lengths. Mike LaMarche (Suz) cruised in for third, with Phil Ruckman (Suz) in fourth, and Craig Lowrie (Suz) moving up to • fifth after a very poor start.
