Ga ry Fredrickson . and J ames Weis, both amateurs, were fast losing ground to Ga ry "H awkeye" Charters an d Ken Miller, two r a ts of the pack variety, Dick Postma , Mike Hagen, Chu ck Herma nson and Ra y Guilbeau were rea lly having a ball by the time th e course turned right into a tig ht sandwash well -bermed for the occasion . Steve Nicholson, W alter Sheek, Al Guzman , who used language on the downhill simila r to the language used on Olvera Street, and Phil Gorgone rea ched the progressive roll er sect ion sensing the finish could not be that far away . Rod Absher was next with th e sa me thoughts. The course headed left in to so m e really steep , pointed foothills. R oeseler was having about the best time of his desert career. Coming out of the foothills, Larry gasse d his Husky u p the wide was h and up the side of the h ill for the u nofficia l win. The Psycheout award goes to the Shamrocks M .C . Due to their advance notice of th e downhill , the pits seemed to have m ore than enough help this week . Old bone breaks st arted to a ct up , sore throat, hoof and mouth , etc. The course was rated great in both the marking and terrain. The downer of the day, Bob Tarazzas informed me , was that due to the ecology/go for it friction on the Arizona Indian reservation , the Check Chase is officially off this year so if you still want to go to the river, it's an open weekend. The way it looks th e next race on the calendar is the Invaders National hare and hou nd , • Resu lts pending. EA ST : MI O-CENTR AL: WEST : Maico M oto rc y cl es , I n c.
