On the fourth lap Smith had gotten to fourth a nd on lap six pushed Berluti and Sutton back to the three /four positions. The most exc it ing race of the day was the first moto of the 125 Pros . Cliff Lett aboard on e of Kelvin Franks "Roo's" got go ing first with Terry Shekell (Yam ) and former Roo rider Tommy Croft smoking right behind him . The brothers Wanket, Tony and Peter were next . on their Yamahas . T ony Wanket systematically picked off the riders until he was the leader. Lett was second and holding off the advances of the second Roo. Croft and Lett went up the ledge together but Lett was able to stay in second. but only by inc hes. The four lead bik es were so close th a t for severa l laps it was anyone's race . When it was all over the front runners were Wanket . Lett . Wanket, Croft and Sh ekell . Shekell started the second race on ly to ha ve Lett take th e lead by th e tim e th e firs t lap was over. Peter W anket had th e lead by lap six . Lett was second with Tony Wanket third . Croft had t he nex t slot. O n th e 10th la p as Cliff and T on y were slamming into the sweepe r in fro nt of the grandstands T on y took a tighter line a nd ca ptu red second . Now it was Wanket a n d Wanket a nd Ro o and Roo . and that's how it ended. T on y -Wanket got the overa ll with Pet er a nd Cl iff in th e next places. • Resul ts in Resul ts Section. Nobody collects . Ascot MX Lunde bounty By Rico GARDENA. CA. SEPT. 8 Ascot Speedway was alive Thursday night with 2. 500 spectators on hand to celebrate Criss- Cross productions' Annual Fox-Hunt. Over 165 riders took part in the CMC-sanctioned night motocross event. The highlight of the evening was the 250 Pro class race. A $50 bounty was placed on Tim Lunde. Lunde has dominated both the 125cc and 250cc races throughout much of the Ascot season and many of the area's hottest riders were on hand to wrestle first place honors away from the South Ba y flash. At the drop of the gate for the first moto it looked as if the reward money would stay in the Lun de family as Tim's brother Chuck , riding a Maico, jumped ou t to a first tum lead. He kept the German b ike out in front of the pack throughout the moto with Joe P la n t e a nd "Flyin" Joe J o hnso n . digging it up for second place. Pla nte pulling it out at the wire . Tim Lunde was able to take advantage of a last ' tum pile-up to slip by for a fourth place finish . The second moto had th e crowd on their feet with Tim Lunde pulling out a ho leshot with Johnson taking his Ossa Phanton into second p la ce . Suzuki rider Gary Denton slipped by Johnson on the second lap wh en a hard landing off the TT jump collapsed the Ossa rider's handlebars. Lunde and Denton were ne ver more than a ya rd apart as they flew around th e adobe trac k. Both rid ers ga ve it their best with Lunde coming out on top. The second moto victory gav e Lunde first overall . Danny W estergaard used two second place finishes to grab first place overall in the 125 Pro cla ss. The first rno to sa w Glen Page pilot his Honda to first plac e a he ad of W esterga ard a nd Yamaha -m ounted Roger Bartling. The secon d moto was a crowd plea ser as J eff Holli e ca me from a bad sta rt to take a hard fought first. Glenn Pag e took second pl ace bu cks with a fou rth place finish in th e secon d m oto an d Roger Bartling hooked th ird place money. R ick Bla ckwell ex te n ded hi s win ning streak to four straight as he topped th e 500 Pros . Blackwell trailed KTM rider Bill Rubly ac ro ss the fin ish line in the first moto but he was able to bounce back and win the second moto giving him first place overall . • Resu lts in R esu lts Section . .. .
