' BRENTWOOD , CA , ·AUG . 19 Tim Nobles was. hot on the gas winning the 'first 125cc moto, The second moto Nobles was running third with Mike Brown and Kent Parnell really going at it. All of a sudden Nobles set both riders up . passing and running away for the win . Brown took second and Pantell had to settle for third. Jammin' John , the point leader in the series , had chain problems that shoved him back to sixth the first moto. Second moto , John crashed on the big jump and was out for the night. Craig Seher took first with fast improving Rick O lson second . Mike Collins, riding out of Dirt Factory, was the big winner in the Vets class . Mike a lso won the trophy dash and a big kissl Jack Lewis of Dam Cycles won the Old Timer Expert class , and h is so n R ick Lewis stopped Joey Sch lag's winning streak and won the 250 Expert class . • Results in Results Section. Chandler regains lost points at PioneerST between Modesto and Int ersta te 5 . One hundred ' thirty-one flat trackers tried out the quarter-rnile-plus-l Otl-feet oval and found the cushion straights and grooved comers to their liking. Current point leaders Rusty Davis / (Vallejo) and Tracy Hays (Stoc kton) won both their respective maxi and m ini classes . In the 360 ma in Dav is and Modesto's Bill Wheat traded bumps and shoves, with th e more experienced Davis coming ou t on top, Hays and nemesis Doug Chandler swapped the 100 Expert lead several times before Doug misjudged a turn on the last lap to lose first place. Mark Key continued his rise with a solid third after a first la p getof£. Tracy jumped out in front of the 80 main and n eve r lost the lead. Chandler bailed agai n on the flag lap , and Jamie Mason and Chris Carr , who had b a ttled hard for third, both moved into trophy spots . Even the novices provid ed good racing. Cal vin Ham of Va llejo won his first trop hy a nd m ade it a good one , as he battled race long with Boyd Turner in the 80 Novice main . Antioch's R ick Almeida a nd Modesto's La rry Heaton also fought the entire main for the 360 Novice win with Almeida taking first . Sand Hill MX Series By Ann Carr ends its seven weeks OAKDALE, CA , AUG . 27 By Tom Anderson Racers continued the battle for top ho nors in District 36 at Pioneer Arena. Currently second on the mini list, Doug Cha ndler regained points lost at Newman with easy wins in both the 100 and 80 Expert mains . Meanwhile Jeff Haney of Seaside extended his Gold Plate (top valley rider award) lead with a revenge 250 Expert win over current white plate leader Rusty Davi s. Davis was also aced by Bill Wheat in the 360 main as both riders raced hard. Suzuki racers Dana Douglas and Jeff Tillery , long out of victory positions , cele b r a t ed t on ight with Dougl as winning and Tillery placing second in the 80 Novice event . Novices Dewey Presses and Jeff Mason also swapped mains from Newman as Presses won b tonight and Mason aced Friday night. Monty Latif followed his 100 No vice win with a th ird in th e hard fought 125 eve nt. Atwater's T im Adams also cont inues to dominate the 200 Novice ranks as he took his sixth main aboard . t he Winton Cycl e Suzuki . Stockton's R ichard Amaiz didn't want to ride expert tonight and Milpitas 250 Junior Mik e Fruzen wanted to but neither will probably worry a bout it next week as Amaiz bwon the main with Fruzen right behind hi m. • Resu lts in Resu lts Section . Newman begins night short track By Ann Carr NEWMAN , CA , AUG . 26 The W estside Eagles Mo torcycle .Club initiated the first ever night short track event at Hill's Ferry Raceway in the l ! ~ tle town tucked Are you em-bare-assed BRENTWOOD , CA , AUG . 26 The end of the seven-week series saw some good riding .and stiff competition from' all the riders. Jamin'John Looney won both motes , and took the series as well in the Mini Novice class . Rick Olson took second with Da vid Pa rken ing taking home a third . . In the 100 ·125 Beginners, Mark' Aiken won , with J oh n Silva second. Both will move u p another class next week . The Powder Puff Andrea Williams took her Honda past Kim Britz and caught th e trophy. In the 100 Novice Byron Estes won both motos and the series for his effort. Danny Clements , after a hard fought battle with K.T. Barry, won the final moto, and the High Po int Series. In the 125 Novice d ivision , T'im Nobles took the series after a seesa w battle with Mike Brown. Both are very improved riders . Gary Lyke really came on strong in the 250 class with two firsts. Gary was also th e series winner. Bob Cooper, on a Bu ltaco , charged hard for a second and Mike Williams , from Cycl e Cit y, third . Mike Schildnecht. on a fast Maico , pushed a head of Merle McCoy .a nd took both moros , but Merle st ill earned the high point trophy. Pa u l McGarth got third on his Yamaha and Vic Rolita was in the winner's circle again with a fourt h. In the 250 I n t erm ed ia tes, Gary Moyer really rode his Yamaha hard to take the win from Wes Morrell , but Morrell .won the series. Big J im Hartbauer is ba ck after a lay -off, and won both motos in th e Old T imers Division.
