gained Dimeo's spot but Mike Bell
moved up behind Savitski eo spend
over half the mota as if he were bolted
to John's rear fender . That is, right up
to the last lap when they disappeared
from sight in some heavy traffic and
Bell came out in front.
Burgett stayed upright the whole
way in the second mota - in front all
the way. Turner and Savitski were
second and third off the line, but Bell
look care of both of them a quarter of
d ie way into the race. At about the
same time Savitski started dropping
off the pace - a drive into a berm had
bent his brake lever completely around
his foot peg.
.'
Bell grabbed the hole shot in the
first open race while Burgett was
recovering from an endo off the line.
Old man (34 years) Bill Cook came out
in second followed by Gene Durham,
Barney Newman and Goat Breke r,
Newman moved into second for the
first half until Burgett made his way
back up to go by. Soon after that
Newman's brakes began to fade and so
did he as Cook and Breker passed in
what became the only battle to watch.
Bell was long gone and Burgett had a .
cozy second place lead. Cook and
Breker diced all the way to the flag.
Burgett, Bell , Jeff Howard, Richard
Earle and Newman came out front in
the second race. In three laps Bell got
out front and it was not long before it
became a Bell , Burgett , Newman
parade to the finish . Ron Sun
threatened ' to get close enough eo
challenge Newman but a wild endover-end crash sidelined him .
Phil Larson dominated the Mini
Expert support race and Rodney
~elle~ came O~lt on .tOP of a three point
tie with DaVId HIlton for the Mini
Intermediate win .

Speedway has some of the unual
tight , twisty corners of a night
track but it also has a lot of flat out go for-it stretches and go -for -it they did .
Ron Turner led all the way in th e
first mota but it was ne ver an eas y lead
because Bill Joyce haunted him all the
way. Mark Gregson was back after a
one-day healing lay-off to argue with '
John Tessitore for third place but,
after only a few laps Gregson pulled '
off. Tessitore held the spot at the flag
'a nd Neal Snarr took his onl y finish of
the night in fourth .
Joyce had the same kind of battle in
the second mota but this time he was
in front and Pat Jacobson was the
shadow. Turner was third but was
losing ground. He was back by about
15 seconds when his bike stopped with
two I~ps eo go. He restarted a lap down
to finish 12th. The three days of racing
had taken it's to ll. John Tessitore
finished third again . Jacobson's first
moto DNF put him out of the money.
Gregson showed his heels to the
pack in the first 250 mota with a
quick, big lead he never lost. Dave
Taylor and Ron Turner followed him
through.
The same three shuffled positions in
the second mota. Taylor was out front
all the way with Turner breathing
down his neck. Gregson was third.
Skeet Hise , ' Sunday's open winner,
led the first open mota until he broke a
master link. Skeet swears he's spent his
entire winnings on master links which
have plagued him over the past two
days. Phil Oveland took the lead while
Hise made repairs but his luck wasn 't
much better. He had built a very
comfortable lead at the three-quarter
point when his machine went sour and
first became eighth. Don Harding
became leader and Cla y Azar had
picked his way through to second.
The neighborhood curfew had come
and gone when the open class lined up
for the second race. In the interest of '
track survival, the mota was cut eo 10
minutes . With the thought of only half
a moto to get .in front - everyone
made a frantic drive. For some it
worked . Joe Sandgathe got the
holeshot but yielded to Randy Kreiter
at the halfway mark . Azar was out to
get Sandgathe when they both went
down in a comer. Azar retired but
Sandgathe remounted and attempted
to finish . The spill left him
