._._._._._._._._.Jeff Vidic (Yam) did his usual holeshot number on the other Open Pro riders but Scott Gillman dialed his fantastically fine dyno.mite ,Yamaha on and smoked to the win. Robert Marino stayed in second to finish the moto. In the next moto Gillman rocketed into the lead to put a lot of space between himself and second place Vidic. Marino got ahold of third and then wiped out Vidic while Steve R hya n moved into third. Texan turned Californian, Ricky Blackwell captured fourth . Gillman took home a very healthy check. ' During practice, 250cc rider Kevin Rodgers' slide came out of his Husky's carburetor as he was slamming into the turn at the bott om of Webco Hill . • Kevin and his bike flew 50 feet through the air and landed on th e jump by the finish turn. Kevin was taken to Chapman Hospital with two broken wrists , multi ple cuts and bruises. 25 0 Pro Gary Denton (Suz) managed to hold off the advances of Scott Gillman for four laps , then it was all over . Gillman was on the 'move, demonstrating his strength and ability as a motocrosser. Steve Rhyan and Donnie Hansen (Yam) had thei r work all cut out for them in trying to get around Denton. On lap nine Hansen flew by both Rhyan and Denton for second and R hyan , in the same lap , displaced Denton. Denton started the ac tion in th e second moto only to ha ve Donnie 'H anse n haul around him to capture ' first . Clark Jones, Warren Reid (H on). Rhyan and Alan Sm ith were holding down the next slots . Reid bumped Denton to begin his assault on Hansen and had gained the lead by the end of the eighth lap., On the last lap it looked like Rhyan would take second, and the overall, when Hansen slid ou t in one of the super dry corners. Bu t there was no traction on the dry track and R hya n was unable to d ig in . Donnie and Steve ripped up to the finish line for a photo finish. Hansen got the overall with Rhyan and Smith ta king home the next money. Randy Hess has been riding a rocket since he returned from the Nationals and today was no exception as he ripped off the gate to grab an unreal lead on th e rest of the competition. Peter Wanket (Ya m) moved into second and was only inches away from Hess when Randy took a less than perfect line and Wanket whipped by for the number one position. The second moto belonged solely to Brian Myerscough. Wanket again moved to second but was never able to catch the R&D rocketship of Myerscough. Toyama had his work cut out for him holding off Hess and Cliff Lett. As the three were going into the tight turn in the gully Gregg made it first and Hess was wide open going for it when his bike just stopped ... Hess was out of the race and extremely disap pointed . Peter Wanket took home the overall money with his mo re consistent m oto wins. Myerscough and Toyama got the thi rd place check .
