AU G. 20 & 2 1 Oregon hero Rod Kentner. riding a Yamaha sponsered by S&S Yam aha and Grizzly Bear Pizza . pulled a fantastic win in th e open pro class over Skeet H ise . H ise, ridin g a Yamaha fo r Va lley Cycle. took the win in the first 30 mi n ute m oto, Rod Kemner a nd Mark Esterberg gO[ ,la te st arts wh en th ey were sent back [0 the second ro w fo r j u m ping. Skeet made th e corner first and sta rt ed pulling away from the field. Kemner came fro m th e back of th e pack and m oved in to second. clo sing the gap between him sel f and leader Hise at about three seconds a lap wh en he cra shed going t h ro u g h a ri ght h a n d e r . pinnin g himself beneath his bike . By the time Kentner got go ing again there wa~ no wa y he was go in g to ca tc h Hi se. Second moto was a drag race [0 the first corner between Hise and Kemner. His e made th e co rn er firs t a nd the ra ce was o n . Lap two saw Kentner push in g H ise hard . hoping to force a m istake . Kemner made his move a round Hise over o ne of the big jumps. passing in midair . Kentner was hitting the ju m ps so hard it look ed as if he would nev er come down . , It looked as if he was going to ca tch Kemner wh en Hise we nt d own o n a left hander and dropped back to th ird . Mark Esterberg (Ya m) moved in to second but Kemner still had the gas on and pulled away for the win of the second moto and the overa ll win of th e day. Hise received second overall wit h third place going to Esterberg, 250 Pros , charged hard to the first corner with Mitch Kirkpatric. (Ya m). Dave Sheppart (Suz), and Hawthorne W ing ( Ya m ) gelling a ro u n d fir st . Ki rkpatric got bumped off while trying [0 hold on to the lead . dropped back to finish th ird in t h a t moto . Sheppard , riding for Sa ve On Cycl e. took over the lead . Skeet H ise (Yam). coming up from behind. tried [0 get around Sheppard wh en t h e two tangled with Hise going down . but making a quick recovery. Sheppa rd broke a throttle ca ble . putting him out of the race . Hawthorne W ing m oved up to take the win with Hise second and Kirkpatri c third. He took his Yamaha [0 the overa ll win in the 250 Expert class . and rode [0 a second in t he Open , -In the first o pen moto , he foll owed Darrell Schultz (Bu l) for th e entire ra ce . The seco nd m oto saw t hese two off the line in third and fourth order. with Klassen o n [Op. Parry qu ickl y took th e lead with Schultz right on his t ail. Schult z slipped b y a fter m a n y unsuccesful attempts for the lead. At the fini sh it was Schultz and Klass en . o ne- two . Danny "Magoo " Chandler dazzled the crowd with some radical laps . but d ropped ou t of co nte n tio n d ue 10 bike troubles. Klassen was really srnokin ' in the 250 class. leading Danny "Can-HeLoo p -It" Canta loupi (Ya m) all t he wa y for the wi n . Danny Turner fini shed in third .
