SEPT. 4 C.R.C. has been putting on some good races lately. and this week Mid Valley Cycle walked away with all the money. Monte McCoy took down two first place finishes in the Open and 250 classes for the Pros . Crown Cycle was also out in full force with Mark Lawrence taking the win for the 125 Pros. All of these ~ys are , crazy as they 'p ass in places. and do little tricks, that others would never even think of. But that is how they got to be pros. by foxing each other out. In the 125 pro class Mark Lawrence finished with two first places, but not without a battle from Suzuki mounted Bobby Jones (Cole Bros.) , Bobby would get the lead and start to stretch it out. But before you knew it Lawrence , was back out front and starting to walk away with his lead. Dave Haugh proved that he is still in good form by taking a second behind McCoy in the 250 class . Dave finished third in the first moto after having problems getting around Mike Shoemaker. But he showedrhem the second moto that all was well. as he finished first with McCoy in second and Shoemaker in third. When the results came out it was McCoy first, Haugh second . and Shoemaker holding down third place. • • Results in Results Section. Bauer, Shekell duel 'over Corona Ilstadium" MX course By Elaine J ones CORONA , CA , AUG . 26 The intermediates and pros were introduced to a new section of the Corona motocross and the general consensus is that it is bad. It would definitely have to be classified as stadium motocross. Labeled as too rough for the beginners and novices , the big boys soon found out there was no easy way to get through the four whoop-de -des that resembled a deepl ' grooved wash board. If that wasn 't enough, you had about 20 feet after the last jump to get set up to go off a high flyer that sent you soaring into the wild blue yonder about 15 feet. The 125 Pros had a wild one and all the action was in the new stuff. It was Steve Bauer that got the holeshot with Terry Shekell in second and Phil Thorstensen third. Bauer took the low line through the whoop-de -dos, which lost him precious time while Shekell went through feet flying in every direction . looking to make' a five-point landing any second.
