Willie Amaradio took a pair of deuces for the day and settled for second overall. 250 Pro Joe Santich (Suz) m'oved to the head of the pack at the end of ,the first lap as Doug Boyd (Suz) moved up fast: Boyd reeled in Sa ntich slowly during the final laps and passed Joe in mid-air off the iast jump to take the lead and hold it to the finish . Second moto, Santich went for it again , but , ag a in , it ended up Boyd / Sa nt ich . Da le Luedtke took his Suzuki to a pair of wins in the O pe n Pros. Nelson Whitehill (Yam) gave Dale a run for the money at the start of the race but Dale took over a nd established a safe lead , leaving Norm Bigelow (Suz) to fill the second spot. Pa t Page cruised his Maic o into third while Nelson dropped back to fourth . The second moto went j ust t he same as the first . The 250 Juniors put on a great shot, but Lee R am age and Brian Werner (FMF Suzukis) dominated the show. Lee won the first moto, getting by ' Bria n on the .last lap , and in the second rnoto Lee endoed on the last lap , giving the win to Bria n . '. Results in Results Section. In the first moto of A .M .C .'s 125 Pro race , Bassett Engineer. ing rider Jim Gibson (Yam) pulled a hol eshot , only to lose it within a half a la p to Br ett Meyer (Yam) a nd W illy Sim on s (Ya m) who were right on his rea r fender : W ith in four laps, Gibson .regained first place, never to relinquish it again , despite co nstan t pressure from Sim on s, Third pla ce went to Ku rt Sofka (Yam r'afte r he a nd Meyer p layed ca t a nd m ouse for five laps. , . A very close - third w.as bein g held by Meyer with Sofka in fou rth . By la p eigh t, Gibson had it in th e b ag , hold ing a very co m fo rta ble 22 ·second lead ove r Locey. On lap 10 Sofka passed Me yer by going inside h im on the d own h ill sweeper and appeared as though he had it sewed up until Meyer once again retook third place right' up to the checkered flag and in doing so netted second overall. The 250 Pro race looked'as though it was going to be a runaway first for Donnie Hansen (Yam) after flying to an unchallenged first over Jon Derhammer (C -A) and Mike Shoemaker (Yam ). . In the second moto Derhammer took the lead 'fr om the start with Hansen following closely. On lap six he made his pass on Derham mer on the downhill sweeper only to slide right after tha t and throw his chain. This left Derh am mer in the clear for t he first overall for the day with Shoemaker h a n gi ng on for second overall while Tim Tolar (Ya m) took the third 'pla ce money .. For the Open Pros it was a runaway deluxe by Scott Gillman (Yam) for first overall with Texan Rick Blackwe ll (Yam ) coming away with an easy second and third going to Scott Miller (Yam). • Results in Results Section. Competition Cycles rider Arron Bassett , back after a shou lder injury. took th e holesho t in the 250 Pros on his KTM and ran first all the wa y with Steve Bartley. The Open Pro class saw Chris Chaffee (Ya m) cookin' and taking the overall. McCoy takes two with eRC DeAnza , By Ron Lawson SUN NYMEAD , CA, AUG . 28 M o nte McCoy, the ,KT M m oun ted rocket from Flo rida , came out to DeAnza with two Mid- Va lley prepared ' m achines and went home with top money in two pro classes . His victories, howeve r, we re not without some sti ff ' competition. In 250 moro one, McCoy -was back in sixth pla ce while the front of the pack was in total chaos.
