Henson was in next and looked bit tired after riding three oft he four ps himself; Plant's bike broke down fter his first lap . Cole and Kirk we~e next with Lee. and Johnston right eh ind . Petri and Lynch captured the xth overall spot despite difficuliieS in e early stages of the race. The novice am of Phil Gilldi and Knight (400 am) followed the Lynch-Petri duo cross the finish line with the 250 ovice team ' of Glover (Hus) and J. ylton (Hus) trailing them to a class ictory, Ed Mundy (250 SUI) and Doug iesner (250 SUI) captured ninth verall and second 250 Expert with om , Mattox (400 KTM) and R. ucker (400 Yam) taking the Amateur .n and round out the top ten. The first Ironman was novice Steve ohnston on a lightweight Yamaha. teve led the lronman class fiom start o finish and did' an outstanding job. First beginners were the team of G. urton (250 SUI) and C . Clark (250 am). undoubtably riding much of he race through dust and doing a fine b., Following the race Dr. Bob ewhouse brought • forward presenratives from severa l of the ajor clubs and at 1:30 p .m. a special eeting was held with CRC officals. he clubs wanted to help CRC with . me constructive cr iticism.' CRC fficials took these suggestions down as eing valuable information as far as tting up future events . Since Len dwards did not set up or layout this ace , there we re some p ro b lem s that RC had no choi ce but to handle the est I they could. Ruttens root in Rattlesnake Gulch By Brian George T R A BUC O CYN .. CA. SEPT. 4 Capistrano Valley M.C. hosted a European Scrambles last Sunday at Racing World . Action proved to be exciting, with a 7Oomph-plus straight through the pits to add extra thrills. Although there were never any battles for . the leads. the mid-pack action was terrific. The track was long. a nd fatigue set in quickly during the 45 ·minute rides. The heat didn't help any. with temperatures ' reaching the 90 's during mid-day, but still more than 100 riders showed to race 'a m o ng rattlesnakes. In the 125 class, Steve Wiseman grabbed the lead at the start and spent the entire race stretching it out. Tom Rutten took his Suzuki into second place after the first lap, . b ut could never get close enough to challenge Wiseman. The final of the race was an easy victory for young Wiseman, with Rutten almost two minutes behind. The 250 action was tight. Bob . Rutten flew off the line and pulled out . into the lead , but Larry Roeseler (Hus) stayed right with Rutten's orange a nd black Harley. The duo pulled away from the field in no time and set up their own battlefield . Roeseler couldn't catch the Rutten Harley and had to settle for second: Rutten won .the race with iess than a minute to spa re. , "R oese le r's speed ' and ' endurance carried over into the open class race. and his will to win proved to be too much for the rest of the field . Brent Wallingsford came out in sec o nd place . after a tangle on the first lap dropped a co u ple of t he leaders back .
