Freeman , Ted - Bood y, and Men
Lawwill. Freeman pulled off the
holeshot and led the X Rs of former
National Champion Mert Lawwill and
Harley factory rider Ted Boody the
entire 10 laps: But the fight for second
wasn't decided until Lawwill went too
high after trying to stuff it under
Freeman. That slip let Boody by for
second with Mert hanging on to third .
Gene Romero, who finished fifth ,
observed the one-line track with a grin
and said, "Boy, starts are really
important here, aren't they?"
Semis - two for the show
-,W ith just the winner of each of the
two lO-lap semis advancing to the
main, two Pen nsylva nia ns left no
doubt who those two wou ld be. First ,
Billy Eves, ran away with his race ,
leaving Terry Poovey and Ra nd y Goss
to scrap for second. Poovey got it.
Then Will ie Crabbe, who had all but
. stopped on the 'second lap of his heat
race, pulled a holeshot and a half,
only to be greeted with a red flag as he
led the field out of turn four , That
