Despite all th ese p recautions there wer e' still some m in or inj u ries and about fif ty rid ers were held u p at a State police roa d block just after a stop sign . Seve ra l riders received cit ations for running the stop sign and for fa ilu re to h ave their license . registrat ion or proper inspect ion sticker . T his m igh t not have occ ured had the riders adhered to the stop sign. but once it 'got started . it lost preciou s m inutes for many cornpetitors who not only obey ed the law but had legal machin ery. T hey still had to stop a nd p rove it. At one point the troopers were so busy th a t many eased quietly past on their illegal bikes. Although inspection may be a marginal requirement in the minds of many enduro riders due to th e nature of th eir equipment and the constant trail damage. there is no excuse for inproper veh icle registration or failure to stop for a sto p sign. speeding on public roads or any other traffic violation. This is one of the key factors that is wh ittling away at th e future of en duro contests as we kn ow th em today. Asid e from these hazards, Kin g Richard managed to roll on in his steam roller conquest of all who step up to challenge his superiority in th e a n of cross country riding on a precise tim e sch ed le. Even Dick will adm it that he quite often m ak es mi stakes. or his equipment does break. but he keeps them m in im al with proper tra ining of bo th h is min d and body. and in preparation of h is equipment. Lik e all fa ct ory team riders he does ha ve an . edge in th e preparat ion department . but m any pri vateers have proven th a t this ed ge can be cut p re lly th in .
