Rawson out of a corner. the overall win . In both rounds, he was followed by Pat Snyder who normally campaigns his Suzuki in Fairbanks, Alaska . He decided to give southern Cal. a try while visiting down here. Kevin Callaway got third. Keeping his winning stre ak going, Clint Carman (Ya m) took the 125 Experts o nce again . In moto on e a little bad luck put' him in third behind Scott Carnahan (Yam) and Cross-Up Inc .'s Matt Devich (Suz). In moto two , however , Carman won with an enormous lead , giving him the overa ll ahead of Devich and Carnahan. Craig Lee (Suz) got a 6-g score for third. Resu lts in Results Section. Callaway cooks By Ron Lawson SUNNYMEAD, CA, AUG . 21 22 Hurricane Doreen left DeAnza's motocross track in ideal condition. The O p en Pros started moto one with Ke!ly .~ a ll ~,,!,!~ and Ken Taylor putting their Yamahas out front. The two were neck and neck until lap five , when Taylor went down a nd seco nd place fell into the hands of R o b Tebbs and h is Husky. Taylor was now in fourth trying to get around Rick Lee (KTM). It wasn't until the 11th lap that he was successful , and by then it was too late to catch the disappearing duo in front. Callaway and Tebbs were all a lone as they crossed the finish line. The top five were Callaway, Tebbs , Taylor, Lee and GaryShipley (Hus) . Moto two saw Taylor back in action . He grabbed the lead and tried to take off with it , but Callaway wouldn't let him. With Tebbs right behind th em , it made for an exciting three -way duel for top money. As the race progressed , Taylor began to pu ll a slig h t lead , but he lost it all on lap eight wh en he, caught his foot in a hole , twisting it badly. He limped back to th e pits , endi ng a som ewhat less than perfect day. It was once again Callaway a nd T eb bs in front , far ahead of third place Lee . Tebbs kept his eyes open for a chance to slip into the lead , but it never came . They finished wi th Callaway in front once more and Lee in third followed by Sh ipley and Karl Wilson (Suz). AUG. 20 Despite "veteran promoters" predictions of doom , speedway racing at the Kern County Fairgrounds continues to lure plenty of specta to rs and riders eac h Sa turda y night. Brian Sharp is now handl in g the p ro moting by himself after the departure of partner Bill y Gray. This wee k g2 ri ders vied for their sha re of th e $1 .250 pu rse . Bobby c hwartz , spo nsored b y Korbs and Der Wi en erschnitzel , was the hot test Division One rid er , with t hree wins and a second ta kin g him into the main . But it was Sonny Nutter gra bbi ng the to p cash of th e 'nig ht as the re be l rider bl itze d the m ain . Nutte r taped the h olesho t with Schwartz on him. Foll owin g in third was T aft's favorit e , Gram Salyers , riding as usual inhis all out style. Stev e Nutter took third from Sal yers in lap two , but Salyers to ok it ba ck on lap three . Schwartz was sta ying with Sonny but Nutter started stre tc h ing on the third' lap to win by eight bike lengths. Don Waller took th e D2 Ma in. Division three, it was Frank Adamo ~ ...... ,;. "' '' ' " ~ ; (Western Well Service) coming fr om the gO·yard line to his sixth straight win on the Bakersfield bowl. Even Adamo admits it's time to advance him to D2 . For awhile it look ed as though Adamo might lose one, but those thoughts were d iscarded in th e last turn when leader Ted Wilson ' loope d his bike , giving Adamo the win . Ma rk Val en cia was second and Frank Buttke third. • ,{ Savitski takes AME backwards MX By Lee T~ylor BAKERSFIEL D , CA , AUG . 20 In the 125 Pros, John O 'Mara (Suz-AI Ba ke r), for the second night in a row , racked up back to-back wins 'for first overa ll. In the first moto, Kirk Sturgeon led the pack around the first turn with Doug Nicol in second , Scott Morgan running third and Andy Guth in fourth. After some abrupt lead changes , Guth found himself in second behind O 'Mara with Paul Lane and Jerry Shore moving up behind , then Shore edged by for third. The second time off the line , O 'Mara was in charge with Lane and N icol in close behind . Nicol settled into second as J ohn Savi tski came u p a lon gside Lane a nd a three ma n duel for third d eveloped between Lane , Savitsk i and Sh ore . By the end of the moto both O 'M a r a a nd N icol ha d beautifully sec ure lea ds with Shore em er ging into third for the checkered. The overall win we n t to O 'Mar a , second overall to Ni col a nd third to Sh ore. The 500 Pro race was won by Andy jannings (Ya m -Bill Krause) after a g ru el ing 'c o ntest with Rust y Hun t. Heading into th e first turn, Jannings and Hunt were locked into a d uel for sec o n d with Wa yne Allen (Midas Muffler) ou t 'in front. Jannings mov ed on by Hunt for second as All en , overshot a berm. Jannings moved into the lead . The seco nd time out , Allen again grabbed the holeshot . Jannings , in second , was staying right alongside and finally managed to get by . '; ~ \.. ... . " ~ .lo . . "
