Jodry, Hersman, Waxham win at Helvetia By Sallee Hilton HELVETIA PARK; CA , AUG . 14 When there are over 500 riders, and better than -the usual number of spectators at Helvetia Pa rk, there is only one word to describe the scene . . . " Pa cked!" >About 100 riders were too late to get an entry. It was no surprise to see Bria n Jodry. Mike Hersman or Da na Waxham double up on moto wins to take the top money in the O pen , 250 and 125 Pro classes. These three riders have been making a habit of doing just that lately. Jod ry had his Maico out fr ont all the way in the first Open moto with J erom e Heiberger (Mai) an d Henry H al b ach ( Ma i} : having to come th ro ugh the pack for their seco nd and thi rd finish. In the second m oto, Heiberger got the holeshot a nd led a few la ps before J od ry put the move on him and took over. H a lb ach had been run ning third , b ut managed to get by Hei berger for the overall second as well as the moto. Mike Hersman (Hus) riding high on the berms and wa y out front at the finish, d idn't start there in the first rnoto, Eric McKenna (Ya m) led the first lap , followed closel y by Larry Wosick (Ya m) while Hersman had to make his wa y past all the riders who had gotten off the line quicker. Once in front , however, Hersman did his stretch-it -out routin e. In the second rnoto Neal Snarr (Ya m) holeshotted but couldn't last a lap against the onslaught of Hersman. Snarr held down the second at the checkered flag, although he had fought all the way with McKe nna . eve n trading t he spot off a cou p le of times. Heiberger working up from a bad sta rt made it by McKenna also . Will Ak ers (Ya m) , an expert of on ly a few weeks tenure , looked really. super in the first rnoto , starting mid -pack a nd work ing up to a fourth fini sh , right up the re with th e '- big .guys. In th e second moto things didn 't go so well . He cras hed before he co uld make up for his wa y back sta rt , and th en started ha vin g problems with the machine ry and finished last. Dana W axhamhas been makin g h is Su zuki go su pe r fast. In th e fi rst 125 moto he started wa y back and the n proceeded to wh iz by about a dozen riders in the first lap , and ta ke over th e lead in the second lap. Da vid Ernst (Ya m)' and Lance Burgess (Ya m) took turns at running second. but Burgess was there when it counted at th e checkered flag. Ph il Minahan (Suz) finished fou rth after the previous holder of that position had crashed. Pat Yoho (Yam ) had worked hard to get up to fourth and was moving on third when he was put down by a rid er being hipped by the leaders. In the second moto Waxham again had a . mid-pack start and took three la ps to get to the front . taking the lead away from Dan Geery. Ernst held th e second after he also went by Geery until Keith Comettal (Su z) ca me. u p to take it over. Geery by now had crashed and Wax ham was moving away rapidly . Yoh o had worked up to th ir d before Co metta got there and had crashed again . Steve Lew is (Suz) was also among t he _several riders all wanting the third p lace position; At the finish the order was Waxham , Cometta , Ernst .
