The second time, it was Best taking Brook Bolstad's early lead away, as Wagerman moved in to join the fight . Wagerman went down near the dropoff, and after making the most immediate recovery I've ever seen, was back after the front -running duo . Losing ground after what appeared to be shifting problems. Wagerman had to settle for third. In the last moto , Best had the holeshot until Bolstad took over in the sand. Wagerman moved by Best and gave Bolstad the hottest battle of the day, picking up the lead in time to win the moto. George Curnutt rode a steady fourth , and picked up the series overall win . Best took second in the senes. With just a few points separating them in the standings, ' U.S. Suzuki riders Steve Schmitz and John Whelchel, along with Trackmaster's Jim Holley set out in this final event. Schmitz took terrific leads to win both. motos and the series overall. Whelchel went down a couple of times in the first moto , with Holley finishing second. In the last moto, Whelchel ran a strong second, while Holley had to work his way to third by passing Ed Eckert (Sunshine Yam) and Ed Collins (Yam of Redlands) . Schmitz , Whelchel and Holley finished in the sa,?e order in which they finished the senes, . With a triple third, today, in the 911 83cc Stock Juniors, David Seekins had enough points to take the series win for this class. Randy Johnson finished second in this event and also in the series . Peter Lepp gave both a workout taking the wm for the day . The CH gift certificates were won by Jeff Stanford who 'rook first in 83cc Intermediate series standings, and second to Jim Pappe. Pappe won the first place certificate for the 100 Motorcycle Intermediates as well . Josh Price rode his Italjet to take top honors in the Junior Cycle Modified Juniors with a 1-3-1 ride. When the points were tallied, Price was awarded the series win . Todd Bess (OMO) took second in the race and the series. Eric . Bolton couldn't get through the heavy traffic in this last event to trophy, but his good standings in the previous events jtave him the series' third. • Results in Results Section, Burgess running second. Cole was right on top of Burgess in a fight for second runner-up spot. Cole moved to the inside and got by Burgess, and went after Armstrong, getting by in time for the checkered flag . Jerry Asher took third for the moto and Andy Jannings (C-A -Kolbe) -hel d fourth. . The second moro belonged to Jannings. When the gate 'd rop ped , Joe Root , back racing after ' being out for some; time , led the pack into the first tum. When they reached the back of ' the course, there was a crash and the race was black flagged . On the re start, John Caper (Yam-Simi Yam.) took over with Asher running second. The rest of the pack jockeyed int o position to battle for third. Caper was the only one with any breathing room . The rest were running two and three abreast. J annings, way back in the pack, started working his way up . Now in th ird , he had taken Asher on and passed him , then set out to catch Caper. Cole was fighting for third with Asher as Jannings was closing fast on Caper. On the back of the track Jannings got by and set up a wide open lead. His teammate, Cole moved into second and was out to take the win. but just could not catchJannings, who crossed the finish line for the moto win . Cole took the overall win , Jannings got second and third went to Armstrong. Tim Locey to~k overall honors in the 125 Pros after a race full of twists and turns. At the stan of the first ' moto, Bob Kline led the pack into the ' . wash with John O 'Mara (Suz-AI Baker) right on his tail. At the back of the course, the race was black flagged and on the \ restart , Kline once more jumped into the lead with' Mark Lawrence closing in fast behind him .
