The novices on th e Sim i co urse ha d # 876 in th e lead , being chased by R ich H a ll, J im Sm ith , Mik e Stephan and Tony Ep pe rson . The lead begi n ner was Byro n Sm it h th en Da vid C hase , J im Ba ird and Da n Bolster all in a row. The only cha nges before - the finish was Smi th overtaking the lea ders for the win , Mike Stephan second , Rich Ha ll t hird . First beginner went. to J im Ba ird, second Dave Chase , third , Byro n Smi th . At th e Ra t race it was a rea l batt le between T on y Epperson a nd #876 . T on y held him off for two laps bu t on th e last lap # 876 got by for t he w,in. J im Sm it h had to set tle for t hird . The begin ner positions d idn't change as David Chase aced Byro n Smi th for th e win. T hi rd went to Jim Ba ird . Oldies-but-qoodles Bruce Lewellyn swept both sen ior eve nt s; the las t race just about gave Bruce a case of " hea t frustration ." 43 seniors raced for the foothills. Earl Roeseler , Dick Camp.
