Adam Padilla in the seniors, Joey Padilla in the 101 -200 class . and Tommi Higgins 0-100 each claimed a first overall in both 40 minute motos wh ile Bart R ag u beat out Mike Bierman for first 250 Amateur and Victor Padilla took first beginner and second overall behind amateur Kevin Sen n in th e minis. In both senior heats, George Erl , Dave Crofoot , W .C. Thornton . Gary Sigman and Bob Berdyck played seesaw while following the leader, Adam Pa dilla, who jumped out front with one heck of a lead . Padilla com ment ed before the race that he felt quite confident he could win beca use t he motocross type course is his kind of race. It was also his son J oey's kind of race as the younger Pad illa won both of h is heats with over a m inut e lead over 'Ca ptain America' Warren Ba rr and Stirling Hopson who thrilled the spectators with their battle for second. Tommi H iggi ns claimed first overall in the 0-100 class and he com pleted the laps so fast th a t t he officials had·to let him go the full six laps ra ther than the usual five for the smaller bikes. Dawn Paiment held second behind Higgins until the fourth lap when she was passed by J eff Coan but she still finished as the first girl and third overall. Craig Adams was the most popular rider of th e dav when he won first overall in bot h the Open cla ss a nd th e 250 class whic h he ra ced ba ck to ba ck. In his first race, he go t th e holesh ot and ran a way with an inc re dible lead . As soon as he took th e chec ke red flag at th e fin ish , he went straight to th e sta rt just in time for th e ga te to go down an d started out third behind Bob Brown and Wayne Mart in . By t he first curve Adams had worked his KTM out fr ont and th at 's whe re he stayed. In th e second heat , Adams again got the holeshot in th e Open cla ss and went all the way for the win . After the 40 minutes were over and he made his mad dash back to the sta rt for his fourth race. he was obviously beginning to ti re. Rema rkabl y. he still finished second overall beh ind Bob Brow n. Senior ama teur George Erl, from . Up -Tire Hus ky, rea lly put his little 125 through its paces by finishing up front with the big bikes for second overall and he was the first 125.
