Marty Miller collected more dough in the 125 Pro class to make his evening's work highly profitable. It was not a n easy win as Miller had a lot of hungry .company . The first moto h ad Mi ller in firm control of the situation with Scott Carnahan a comfortable second. Greg Sheets had to dispose ofJon Friese before he could move into the third place slot , This was accomplished by the second lap and from there on out everyone held firm. The second moto held a surprise for everyone as Terry Shekell, who had nothing but hard luck the first go , suddenly came alive. He was off the line second to Miller but on the fourth lap had taken Mille r and held him off for the checkered. Friese came from out of. it u? get around Sheets and Carnahan to come up with the third . South Bay Speedway had its largest turnout so far for the Sum mer Series. Terry Shekell was going for ano ther sweep in the GS·750 w ith Turbo :~~~ t~~~ has been doing some very im pressive rid ing . Pet er Sabat moved into fourth ' with Darren Pritchett in fifth . In the 250 Expert class, Da vePotts was really riding to the best of his a bility and he downed first overall. Mik e Shoemaker and Mike Lacey were . doing some nice racing, but La cey lost out to Shoemaker for second overall, T he best and longest race of the day was the team race which ran for a solid 90 minutes . The winners of this class were Ronnie Gibson and Joe Br own . Bro wn started off with the first position and both riders held it throughout the race. The race through the pits ";as the best as the riders had to change each la p : ' Someone would get carried away, and dump his bike in the m idd le of the pits, 1 ta lked to one mini rider whose partner d idn't show up a nd he' h ad to run the entire 90 m inu tes on his way. DG rider' John Tessitore (Hon) was right behind Shekell, with Tony Gomez hot on .him. Gomez moved into the second position and it stayed that way for two la ps until Tessitore got by Gomez . .Tessitore just kept it on and ca ught Shekell a nd got by. The three were WF O in the last Japs and the fin ish was Tessitore. Shekell a nd Gomez. In the seco nd moto , She kell aga in took th e holeshot and within a few laps worked u p a nice lead. Tessitore a nd Gomez were right behind , then Shekell landed off the first jum p and lost his chain . Tessitore and Gom ez just flew on by wit h Nelson W hitehill behind them . Shekell got his chain on and gave chase and loo ked as th6ugh he set a new track recor d doing it. bu t he could not catch the lea ders. Tessitore was back and ready in the 250 Pros and so was Competition Cycles rider Aaron Bassett (KTM). Bassett got the holeshot a nd was smoking, with Tessitore aways behind. Bassett went down on the fourth lap , giving Tessitore the lead. while Terry Turner finished next, Bassett retired from the next moto and the Open Pro class due to an injury. Tessitore easily won the second 250 moro and first overall. . In the Open Pros. Da vid Gerig powered his Suzuki around for first overall. with Allen Ortiz on a' Maico second and Vince Kreizinger third . Ric Secor (Can -Am) , point leader of American Motorcyclist Assn . (AMA) 0 -38 desert racing, struck at South Bay motocross, winning overall in the . 250 J unior class with second and third place finishes . His Baja Int erna cional race teammate, Ric k Finger (Hus). p laced second with a 5-1 tally. Neither of the two are conditioned 10 ' the holeshot charge or the motocross . groove on the berms . Finger kept watching ahead for desert obstacles while standing on the foot pegs with both eyes beamed to infinity all the way 10 first place in the second rnoto. Gas conserver Secor was last place in the second moto when he . finally turned on his gas supply lin e. Locey, Potts distill CRC Moonshine GP By Rox Ann Dougherty VALENCIA , CA.JULY 31 Tim Locey (Simi Valley Yamaha) battled his way to a first overall finish in the 125 Expert class at CRC's Moonshine Gran d Pri x at Indian Dunes. Locey had a pretty to ugh time of. ge tti ng out in fro nt as Gary Scheidler was in firs t wit h Bill Ba rlow in seco nd, both tryi ng their hardest to keep Locey from gettin g by. But Locey zoomed by both of them with ease. Sch eid ler kept his bike cooki n' in seco nd. but Barlow lost out th ir d to Bill Robert son , who Bess dominates junior cycles at AMEYouthMX By Judy Greenberg VALENCIA , CA , JULY 29 T odd Bess (OM O & Sons) took back-to-back wins fOT the overall in the Junior Cycle Stock Junior class d uring Friday night AME Youth Division motocross action a t Ind ia n Du nes . Bess built a good lead in moto one, as Josh Pric (Mer-power) and Ricky Dumo (Pesky's) battled for the second spot', with Du mo the victor. In moto two . Bess led fro m start to finish. Du m o was in second being pressured by Todd Walsh . Price pou red it on as they nea red the sweeper and moved right by W als h and Dumo 10 take over the number two spot in the last la p , giving him ' seco nd overall. Mike Held j umped into ' an early lead as rno to one of the 83cc Modified 12 a nd over Begi nners got underway . Pe ter Csu la k and Scott Torna shot by Toby Morris 10 go after Held. T om a pressured Csulak until he was in the second spot. Morris found an opening to move into third. Bob Owens (Trackmaster) didn't have the best start, but worked his way, 10 fifth for the finish . The second time, Toma grabbed the lead and never gave it up despite the heat Held put on him . Steve T a ylo r battled with Toby Morris , taking the third spot , as Owens moved into fourth as the flag came OUI. Elect ro rider Rod Stiles had a tight race with Dou g Gentry and Mark T omaselli in the 83cc Intermediates. Tomaselli got the holeshot in the first moto ; with a definite lead . whi le Ge ntr y and Stiles closed in fast. Tom aselli wavered after making the power turn and his ' competitors flew by. Gentry's lead was slim. and Stiles al most got by hi m as he shot off t he berm in the sweeper, but Gentry held right down to the wire. Tomaselli m oved rig ht beh ind Stiles. but Stiles , held second. In m oto two . Stiles took im medi a te command. Mer-power ri der Gentry and T om aselli were right beh in d , moving up to his side.
