Den ton got going first in the 250 Pro race wit h J eff Jennings (Suz) and J im o Gibson (Bas) giving chase. During t he first few laps the riders were bunch ed ~ together so tightly · it was 'h a rd to see ( who was doing what . Gibson followed th e first two riders for only three laps ~ before he catapulted to fir st and rode there for t he rest of the race. T im Lunde (Yam) and Dave Miller (Yam) '{ pushed past Jennings to ca p t u re h second and third . Jennings and Don Hansen (FM F) tried to keep enough ~ distance between t hem selves and the on-coming Brae Glover and Pete .. Wanket. both on Yamahas, so t hei r positions would be safe. Glover got Hansen . then next time around Wanket had advanced a pla ce . Jennings kept after Lunde and with only three laps to go , passed h im for second. Lunde finished the race in third . a head of Miller and Glover. Jennings got t he . holeshot in the second mota with 'L u n de quickly , ta king it away from him. Lunde. Gibson and Miller whipped around n the 'track in front for the entire mot a . Jennings and Glover had the ,next ,L ,places. Gibson ca me up with the overa ll win. When the gate dropped for th e 125 Pros , it was Randy Hess (FMF) firs t with Gregg T oya ma (FMF), Mike Pillar (C BS) and Vin ce Van Hook (Yam) giving chase. Toyama overtook H ess on the back section of the track }!f and kept the lead for two laps. Jennings (Suz) and Broc "T he Rocket" Glo ver {Brockettrt : ~ . Ed .) were on the move. By the fifth lap , the pack had thinned and the riders had picked their lines for the fastest way around each other. Tony Gomez and Pete Wanket had gotten by all but the first five rid ers . Glover was staying very close to Jennings and on lap 11. he blasted by for ·the lead , Jennings and Lunde rem ai ned ahead of Peter Wanket , Toyama. and Hess . Tony Wanket was pressing Hess hard. The last la p flag wen t out and the action be tween Tony Wanket and H ess became frantic. They screamed up the hill to the fin ish line together and. Hess took the tum and remained on the track while Wanket went off to t he area by the scoring tower. Hess got th e points be cause he stayed on the track although they crossed th e lin <: at th e same second. Mik e Brown had the, second mota lead for ju st about a half a lap wh en Tony Wanket took over. Glover grabbed Wanket's lead away from hi~ and then opened up such a lead that It looked as if he had run away and hidden fr om th e other 39 riders. Peter W anket to ok his brother's second place position with Lunde and Gomez next. All of th e riders were exci te d with th eir mon ey and gifts. but Gomez had to have been th e m ost excited since'this was h is firs t payback. . • Resul ts in Resu lts Section .
