Kenny Roberts blasted from last place on the
starting grid to easily win the 3D-lap, 75-mile
American Motorcyclist Assn . (AMA)/Camel
Pro Series road race held at Sears Point Raceway on Sunday.

More than a race win . the victory
gave Roberts the Camel Pro Series
points lead at the halfway-season
payoff. Besides the $3 . 140 in purse
monies that he earned. Rob erts th us
laid claim to an extra $8 .000 in Camel
Pro Series cash. With $520 in la p
money and another 51 .300 in
contingency money. the victory paid
Roberts a total of$12 .960.
"Did you ever doubt you could 'do
it?" a reporter asked Roberts after the
race .
"Yeah ," answered Roberts, " I sure
did ."
Before the final event. Roberts w~s
not the on ly person who doubted he

on his bike had broken at the start of
Roberts' heat race. allowing the reol:.
wheel to wander and forcing Roberts
to park his TZ750D Yamaha after the
first turn .
