, top 10 in a qualifying moto, or the top two in a consolation moto, to fill each -moto with the!l6 best riders available. Finally at 2:00 p .m. the best of the 125 riders pushed to the line. John Tessitore, riding for DG Performance Specialties. came from a good start to take the first moto win . In the second moto Tessitore was back in fifth off the line . The 125's really screamed to power up the hills . On the down hills suspensions were stressed to the point where they sounded like thunder as the wheels beat the ground. Tessitore held fifth for three laps and then made his move. On the fourth lap , he passed three riders to pull into second behind early leader Jack Keese (Suz) . (Tim Worth from Fresno led his qualifier wirer to wire but lacked the stamina in the main and fell from the lead after his hole shot). Tessitore didn't like second very well and two la ps la ter moved into the lead, which he held for the remainder of the race. As it turned out Tessitore was the only rider to win both motos at Mammoth in any class. Scott Karl (Suz) placed second overall with two hard rides. Third went to Keese. In the 250 class, Mike Bell and Gaylon Mosier were the favorites , but it was Greg Robertson who, with a little luck , took the top spot. Mike Bell took the lead from Robertson in the first moto but was forced out of action in the second round when his bike's gas tank developed a leak and a irregu lar flow starved the engine. Mosier was the only pro racing two classes. The fatigue of two qualifing motos and four main event motos wore on Mosier and dropped him to third overall. Robertson (Oss) took. advantage of Bell's bad luck and motored away from the field for the' overall win . Shennan Schweller took second overall and the final rnoto victory aboard a Suzuki. In the Open class Terry Clark (Kaw) took the overall without winning either moto. In the first round , Bultaco's Rich Eierstedt had an im p ressive win despite his bad luck about five laps from the finish . He said, "I had a flat and was thinking about pulling off the track but nobody was catching me , so I stayed in and won ." After grabbing the hole shot in the first moto Gary Semics' Kawasaki rear shock broke and forced Gary out of action on the second lap. Disaster struck in the first turn of the second moto for Eierstedt, "A bike started to swap in front of me, he looked back and pulled right in front of me forcing me off the track and into a tree" Rich said. That. crash ended Rich 's hopes for the overall purse. Seimics had the holeshot again and led the entire race . Terry Clark , Kawasaki's "other" rider put together two great rides on the demanding track for the win. "If I didn't have such abad start in the first moto I could have caught Rich. His flat slowed him but I was too far back. Kawasaki picked me up for support class racing, but everything seems to be coming together and I'm looking forward to the 500 Nationals." Terry said . Riding one of last years bikes, Clark looked very good and should be a threat in the upcoming Nationals. Second overall went to Parry Klassen on a Yamaha, third to Steve Rhyan on a KTM and fourth to Eierstedr , • GLEIIII/XB A study in strength IfyOll ride mofoC/~ hare de£ljjn make for ~ sfiffer and ~cramhles orendurrx, were not harder working abotlffo fellyouhowpuniming fire. ~!Jal/ow gtrJ()(/{!£ in the top ofeadJ lug pllf hundted~ ofbifing edg~ foworkwhen you}e running hardpack ~urface.r. if can be.
