Anybody who missed the June 2& airing of Peter Starr's ''The All American Race" on talevision can see the film at the Harley-Davidson On Track Show et the Los Angeles Sports Arena on July 9. The show runs in conjunction with the LA. Coliseum Superbowl of Motocross, and the film will run continuously from 10:00 a.m. to midnight. excepting a three-hour break for the Superbowl race. Best of all, the show and the film are free - no admission will be charged at all. Already, 250 -custom, vintage and competition motorcycles lall Harley-Davldsons) are signed up to be on display. Hmmm. Smooth, obviously-stamped exhaust pipes, production-line Showa forks, steel swingarms, snappy looking seats. Somehow, these Honda don't look like your average works bikes. Place your bets. Papa says these are the CR400R labove) and CR250R lbelow) production model Hondas, and that they will be introduced in this country around the same time school starts in the fall. The bikes obviously are fast and handle. One thing, though, the Ohlins gas shocks seen on Brad Lackey's motorcycle labove) will be replaced by Showas. CMC road racing is' now called just "Manning Racing." Promoter Pat Manning has split with CMC - on the best of terms - because the CMC insurance program just isn't as good anymore as the one Manning could line up on his own. Suzuki's Gerald Rand won his third 125cc Motocross World Championship Grand Prix of the year in Czechoslovakia on June 19. Rond, 20, used a 2-1 placing to beat the 3-2 score of Jiri Churavy ICZ) and the 1-5 mota finishes of defending World Champion Gaston Rahier. Rahier has won three of the seven GPs to dete, with five to follow. Points standings for the 12Scc World Championship including the Czechoslovakian round have Rahier leading with 166, followed by Rand with 124. The premier showing of the motorcycle racing movie " Follow The Circuit" will be the night of July 3rd after the AMA 125cc National at Agency, MO. This is a three-hour movie filmed in the states of Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa and Missouri during 1976 and features the music of Dale Sapp singing "Give it the gas and fall on your ass," plus the title song "Follow The Circuit." It will be shown at the Agency MX track. 2 Shell Racing Specialties is alive and ,w ell, and sponsoring Hank Scott and others. Shell Motors, ' a dealership which recently filed for benkruptcy, is not. and has not been for five years, affiliated with Shell Racing Specialties. Hank Scott. as predicted last week. did ride a Bill Kennedy Triumph at the Columbus, Ohio Camel Pro Series half mile, but only because his machines are beck in California being shaped up for the rest of the nationals. If .y ou ' li remember, Scott's Shell Racing Specialties Yamaha broke while Hank led the June 4 Louisville Half Mile. Shortly before Cycle News went to press on Monday afternoon, Ron Burpo. president of the Desert Racing Assn.. (ORA) , announced that his organization has gone out of business . In making the decision to quit promoting desert races. Burpo cited "Legal and financial problems. I'm too heavily in debt. there's lawsuits. . . judgements coming down the road ." said Burpo. Burpo said he was mailing a letter to all ORA members. which would better explain the decision. On Bob Hanneh's U.S. GP noshow: It's against both AMA and AM rules for a racer to enter two races on the same dete, and a rider must give. organizers 10 days notice if ha plans to withdraw one entry to ride another race. Yamaha notified U.S. GP promoters TrippeCox. Associates that Hannah would race the 12Scc National lhald the same day as the U.S. GP) just two days before the U.S. GP was to be held. Technically, Trippe-Cox. who hed advertised thet Hannah would race, could have Invoked the AMAIFIM rules and kept Hannah from racing et all. Instead, Gavin Trippe and Bruce Cox decided to be cool and let Hannah renege on his U.S. GP entry, even though his no-show made them look foolish. At the Hang Ten GP tech inspection/registration session held at the Plaza Camino Real shopping maU, the Carlsbad Police Department unveiled its latest weapon - a Suzuki PE 250. The cop was riding it on the streets. Home crowd favorite Will Hanog (Suz) won the 500cc World . Championship road race in Holland on June 26 . Defending 500cc champion and British star Barry Sheene (Suz) was second, followed by American Pat Hennen (Suz). Frenchman Philippe Coulon (Suz), and American Steve Baker (Yam). Larry Roeseler won four races at the AMA 0-37 Desert Vipers Dual European Scrambles. This boosts Roeseler's record to eight wins in three weeks. Coverage of the event was received in time for Cycle News Monday deadline, but held due to space considerations. Same week coverage of desert events will resume after the July 4 holiday weekend. JUNE 26 Team Yamaha's Heikki Mikkola's persistence and patience paid off in Canada this weekend at theMotocross Laurentide, Canada's 500cc World Championship Motocross Grand Prix. The F1y.ing Finn topped the Motocan promoted event with a 1:3 score after fast qualifier Jim Pomeroy dropped out of contention due to a first moto crash. Honda teammate Brad Lackey took over where Pomeroy left off, wrapping up a 3·2 second overall for the day . Third was U.S. GP winner Gerrit Wolsink, with ROKer DeCoster.fourth and Herbert Schmitz fifth. Only 16 riders entered the event. • Results Hondas soon- to-be- released TwinStar is a 185cc twin-cylinder four stroke with a step seat and ape hanger handlebars.
