from the jaws of victory. The

checkered flag, handed Ron Pierce the
victory.
P ierce , a b oa rd the North Chester
(C alifo rnia) Motorcycle Parts BMW ,
and Baldwin , r iding the Reno Leonituned Premier Motor Corp . MotoGuzzi we re down to a four-wheeled
blur during the last few laps on Bryar
Motorsport Park's twisting 1.6 mile
course. Early leader Reg Pridmore
and his Racecrafter's Kawasaki were
then 20 seconds back in third.
For Baldwin and Pierce the strategy
was simple: To win . The final lap was
an attack and counter attack affair
with the pair sweeping through nine of
the 10 turns with first Baldwin and
then Pierce holding the edge. Entering
turn 10 , the final downhill-uphill fast
right -hand sweeper, Baldwin slid out .
and P ierce was in . M ike was able to
push across the finish line . but his
o utsid e help h a d crossed the track in a
manner regarded unsafe ~ the AMA
and he wa s penalized a lap . The move
dropped Mike to sixth .

hellu va fight between Pridmore .
Baldwin and P ierce with each sharing
p ositi ons one through three at a ny

By the halfway flags . the trio was
wheel to wheel in some of the best
ra c ing see n during the weekend.
Pridmore then began to slow leaving
the fight . Rounding out the top five
afte r Baldwin's accident were Kurt
L iebman n, K eith Cod e and Kurt .
