UT,JUNE 10 Stan W ynhoff s RM p ro ved quickest down the long starting straight in the first 125 Pro moto , only to result in a hairy fro n t of the pa ck endo and a DNF. Captu ri ng t he lea d was Da n Letchin berg (Yam) with Mike O 'D riscoll (Yam) in hot pursu it. Greg Madse n followed the tight twosome, repeatedly bouncing his fro nt knobby aga inst O'D riscoll's, b ut th e tri o took the checkered in the origi nal o rder. . At th e d rop of the gate in th e second moto, on e could see that a n earl y D N F would not d iscourage W ynhoff on his rejuvinated Suzook. Ken t Thurgood was on his tail , and a hard -d riving third runner Ler ch inberg b eing chased closely by O'Driscoll , wh o soon took se con d . On the last lap , Letchinberg passed Thurgood , try in g hard to gain ground on the swift sh ifting O'Driscoll who rode to th e checkered just on e half bike length behind Wynhoff. In th e third and final moto, once again Wynhoff was out in front wit h Letchinberg, Gordan, and O'Drisco ll giving him no room for m istakes. The three front runners took up all of 10 ya rds making it a nyone's guess who would see the finish firs t. Bu t W ynhoff was not go ing to settle for less tha n first, as he screamed to the checkered with Letchinberg and O'Driscoll right behind. In the 250 Pros , Ken Archibald wasted no time scre am ing his RM to the first corn er, but not far enough away from Mike O'Driscoll's stock YZ, which was beginning to make tire marks on Archibald 's rear fend er . O 'Driscoll's pace was just too much , as he slipped past on lap three holding onto a good lead all the wa y. Archibald claimed second as a disgusted Ra nd y Evans took the th ird spot. . Side by side it was three deep, Archibald , O'Driscoll and Eva ns going into the first corner of the second moto in what looked to be a sure pile- u p , but somehow tu ck ing low and driving quickly to the inside, Archibald came out ahead. Archibald hung on for one more lap . But nothing was going to stop O'Driscoll - not even an RM . Taking an outside line through a turn to pass, half sliding and wheelie-ing, he snatched the front position fro m ITEMS TO BE SOLD: Tim Worth consistent Mountain High w inner. Archibald. The crowd, half-crazed and scream ing. applauded both O 'D riscoll and Archibald at the finish with Eva ns a d istant th ird. In the third moto , Arch ib a ld reel ed in a no the r tight, h a ndleba r-knock ing holeshot with O 'Driscoll tied to his t ail. Reme m b e r ing wh e r e he had passed Archi b al d tw ice before, O 'Driscoll set it up aga in , b u t this time fate had him sliding out , but still holding secon d to t he end . Scott Statum (Mai) was right behind to claim thir d . With the a bsence of J ohn Greenwy and Pete Watson , the 500 Pro class was pretty much up for grabs. Calvin Dill ard showed some good speed from the start, ne ver slo wi ng, defi nitely determined to ta ke over , and did ha nd ily. Wins, spills and losses for Worth at Mountain High MX By Frank Arthur NORTH FORK , CA ,JUNE 5 Tim Worth , the "H uron Hurri ca ne," had a pair of st reaks broken , but increased another one, with the downhill portion of the track on ce again added to the motocross at Mountain High . Worth cop ped his 19th consecutive win in the 125cc class , winnin g both motos eas ily, the last by 23 seconds over fellow rider from Huron , Sammy H olland. Worth ca p tured h is fi rst victory while favoring a sore knee occurred when he bumped an unidentified bike coming in from th e sid elines. The spill stopped his overall race streak , whi ch was at 16 and included competition in all classes. His point total in Central Californ ia , since tabulations began last September is 1084 . Parry Klassen, who is di viding his time between th e Fresn o area tracks and those in th e Sacramento a rea, found his tou ch again here in the pro class .
