A wistful or excessively sen timental sometimes abnormal yearning for return to or of some past period or irrecoverable condition. That's how Webster's defines nostalgia. Vintage motorcycle enthusiasts obviously yearn for past periods. In the case of The First Vintage Scene, a 66·page "booklet" which contains excellent photos of over 100 vintage bikes , that period is the Vintage era. That era is described by Les Shelley, who chose the photos and wrote the captions for the book, as a period of time "from the end of the Edwardian period to the time when, in the words of a well·known figure: 'All the fun went out of motoring.' The inelusive dates, from 1 January 1915 to 31 December 1930 were originally set by the Vintage Sports Car Club in the . 1930's." The emphasis here is on the photos of the bikes.
