TF Racing # 1055 Indust r ial Way !5 S arks Ny. 89431 Randy Davis. aboard a Briggo· Jawa . captured first place in the First Division Handicap Main after riding a three-lap race . The event was redflagged due to a spectacular get-off involving Mike Rooney and John Cook . Rooney high-sided coming out of turn four and slammed into the wall along with Cook and his bike. Cook was apparently unscathed and got up immediately, but it took Rooney some time to regather his senses and exit the track. Rollin' Rich MacMurray seems to be invincible this season as he won the Scratch Main for the third time in as many races. Larry Shaw placed second to MacMurray . and Rooney managed to borrow a bike and finish in the third spot over Paul Orlandi . FOLSOM. CA, MAY 21 The NorCal Speedway Circus returned to Folsom for its second event of a I3 -week'series. The track was in rough condition and some changes in riding sty le were necessary in order for the riders to negotiate the corners. A few . uncomplimentary remarks were voiced concerning the use of motocross bikes. but. as the night went on, the track surface got a little flatter. Steve Bast, captain of the Folsom speedway team , nabbed first place for his team by coming in ahead of Cal Expo's Mike Faria . Lightning Larry Shaw . also of Fo lsom , came in third over Marty Benck. making the total score for the series II to 13 in favor of Folsom. The winner of this week 's Junior Scratch Main was Ron Kirby , who jumped out to an early lead and led the race wire to wire , despite exhausting efforts by Lance King to pass him. John Gennai , National Number 20 on the class "C" circuit. easily won the Division II Handicap Main. Gennai zipped off the l O-yard line into first place and gained such a lead that he literally coasted ac ross the finish line. The Division I Handicap Main was super! Denny Pyette, riding his first season as a firs t division pilot , had the crowd standing on its feet. Pyette got a good holeshot and commanded first place for several laps until he and Randy Davis got tangled on turn four. Mike Bast . who was in third place behind Davis, swooped in to take the lead . Pyette fell back into second place only to have a confrontation with Steve Bast. Steve Bast tried to pass Pyeue where there was no room to do so, and this resulted in a spectacular get-off by Bast. Steve was actually off his bike a nd was being dragged down the back straightaway, a ll the whi le trying in vain to regain control of his bike. Brother Mike Bast finished the race in first place followed close by Pyerre in second and Davis in third. . Pyette refueled his bike and was out on the track again to ride the Scratch . Main . in which both he and Rich MacMurray collided on the first corner. Bot h of their bikes were wrecked , and they had to restart the race on borrowed equipment. Larry Shaw jetted into 't he lead followed close by Marty Benck and Pyette. MacMurray fell off all by himself .com ing into turn three while Shaw. Benck and Pyetre finished the race one, two and three respectively. • Church back in winner's circle at D·35 Fresno Qualifier By Cosmic Cat & CO. FRESNO, CA.
