Mike barely received his FI M license when AI Ames '(A MA ) hand carried the paper to Mike at sign -in . Herein lies the controversy , did Mike have the license in time to compete for World Championship points? Because of that problem the po int totals are not yet official. leaderboard came Montesa-rnounted Mike Griffitts in third place. Griffitts' 33,9 placed him ahead of ' two - t i~e Scottish Six Days Trial winner Martin Lampkin and fellow Californian Mark Eggar, with those two tied at 35 each. Britisher Lampkin took the fourth -: place World Championship points from Eggar because he had 35 cleans to Eggar's 33 cleans , Egg~r w~s lentered in .the World C hampionship class but not in the North American Trials Championship, the AMA's championship series. Mike Griffitts earned his third place finish in the World Championship class via a protest of the final scoring, Griffitts was orginally tied with Behin d Cou ta rd and Whaley on the Lampkin and Eggar at 35 marks a piece, bu t disputed a scoring call on Section 21 of the second loop where he was tallied as receiving a five although his scoreboard reflected a three .
