New Mexico has a big Fiest a Celebration wit h celeb ri tics Ra lph Edwards and Bo b Barker and other Hollywood stars for a weekend of festivities - wh ich incl ude a big mom'y motocross race. A lot of fine riders showed up for some rea l goo d racing . The Open Experts were t he firs t rac e of .t he day and Albu qu erque's Gary W ilson (Pen) j umped int o a n ea rly lea d a nd started to stretch it out. Las C ru cean Scott Logsto n (Ya m ), who was a uemptjng to ride three classes of 25- mi nu te motos in nea r 90· heat . got into second on t he first la p but couldn't cat ch Wi lson . T he res t of the pa ck c ha nge d pos itio ns eve ry lap wit h Ma by Mcintyre (Ya m) coming in thi rd . Logston took t he lead in t he second , moro with G . W ilson right on h is tail. Wi lson pushed hard for about 10 minutes , then started dro pping back. Logston went on to win with Wilson second just ahead of McI n ryre who had worked up to third after starting in fifth position. In the 250 Expert class . Albuquerque's j am es Fastle ( Pen) took the lead off t he st art followed by Gary Wilson (Pen) and Tucson's Carlos Serrano ( Pen ). At th e end of the first lap Serrano was leading wit h W ilson and Fastle following . Ser rano rode like he was on a rai l a nd really stretched his . lea d out. Scott Logsto n (Ya m) disposed of Fastle and set his sigh ts on Wilson when all of a sudden Wi lson ca me to a stop with a b roken bike. Ser ra no won with a b ig margin over Logston . wit h Fas rle thir d . In the seco nd 25 0 Expert moto Fast le aga in took th e lea d , bu t th is time he held off Ser ra no for two laps. O nce Serra no was in the lead he started movin g away . Logston. who was t hird , passe d Fas rle for second but cou ld n' t ca tch the Flying C hica no. Fred Fr ornel la ter moved int o thi rd a nd t ha t's th e way they finished t he moto and came out overall . Carlos Serrano pushed his Husky int o t he lead of the 125 Exp erts with Maby Mcintyre (Yam) second and Dennis Patt on (Suz) th ird . Scott Logston ( Ya m ). on e of th e top contenders in this class and by now competing- in his third class of the day. ca me out of the second turn next -to last in a large field . after bei ng pushed off t he track. On tha t same lap the an no u ncer noticed Logston had moved into fourth a nd was hau ling . Logsto n ca ug ht Pa tt on a nd th ey both pa ssed a fa di ng Irwin. On t he sa me lap Logston p assed Patton a nd set out for Mci nt yre . Wit h two laps to go Logston cut the di stan ce of about 50 yards to 15 feet betw een th em a t th e finish . Mc in tyre hel d on for th e first as Logston ro de one of th e best ra ces of the d a v to co me in seco nd a head of Pa tt on : Logston wasn't messing around in the second mota as he took th e lead on the first la p. Ser rano passed Logsto n but fell dow n in the next turn giving Pa tt on seco nd and Mci ntyre th ir d . Serrano was up and ro lling again a nd worked his way back ' up to Logston and eventua lly into first at the finis h wit h Logs to n second (first overall). Pa tt on third and Mcintyre fourth . An interesti ng bit of info rmation pic ked up during conversations wh ile waiting for p resentations. was t ha t Scott Logston raced the first race of his career five years ago at this track during Fiesta on a co nverted Hod a ka IOOcc Super Ra t bike . taking fourth in a class of 25 . , Consistency paid off for Mark Kuester (Mai) in th e 250 Amat eur as he won with third and fourth moto finish over Dave Eicher's one and seventh m oto finishes . As they hit th e series of ess tu rns it was wheel to wheel for a ll th ree . Ou t of the tu rns over the was h a nd on to the back straight. Eva ns was still ou t in fro nt with W oodwa rd no w in second a nd Lat im er in third . The three stayed hot on each other's knobby till th e chec kered a nd they finis hed in that order. The "Show-stea ling" ra ce of the day ca me when 30 125 Nervous (Novice) rid ers shot out of th e gate and hea ded for the new overpass . A few go t crowded ou t on the upgrade and at e it . but at lea st n o o ne wa s hurt seriously. Jim Ma yse (Suz) sho ved into firs t and held across t he checke rs . After a bad sta rt . James Mirick gu ided his Yamaha throug h to finish seco nd. J immy McGuire (Yam) had to sett le for th ird . whe n on th e last lap . Mirick p a ssed . Ke n Tu ck er (S uz) p laced fourt h.
