Jim Holley won the first AME Super Summer Series Mini Pro race. (Contin ued[ro m page 19) national Trials Association , feet 24 up competition. He was c1osel,Y followed by Ga ry LaPlante . on his m od ified 302cc Kawasaki , and Bultaco mounted Greg Lers h , Fourth place was earned by Ol i Thorda rson , ju st recently mo ved up to th e expert ra nks. The Amat eu r class was ta ken . by Gr eg Byers. on e of those " na tura l" riders It won 't be lon g before he's givi ng th e expe r ts a bad . time . Following Byers wer e Gr eg W illever and Rick Manl ey all mounted on 350 Buls. Mark Oldar on his somewha t altered 300cc Honda topped th e Novic es. with a good ride, followed closel y by Mike Allen on a 348 Montesa and Yamaha mounted T im Ziegler. 13 year old Mark Bernba~m , riding a little Yamaha 80cc whipped th e Beginners with a good ride. Arlan Will iams on a 250 Yamaha gra bbe d second , with third go ing to Allen Pwillis J T. on a 250 Honda . There were not enough Seniors 10 make a class . so Wayne Em ge a nd J erry Manley rode for fu n a nd ha d a close tu ssle . I.T.A . president Jean Fradette got permission from Saddleback Park to open th e floodgate and make section 5 a really great blabbing brook -type tr.ap. Section one was on the SIde slopes, right next to th e famed ~atterh~rn Hillclimb. This featured shp and shd e sandstone up and down banks and sharp tu~s. Section Two was laid out on the side of a rocky hill . It was great watching the amateurs and expe rts using all their skills and styles. Sections seven and eight wer e continuous steep uphills. with a few zags and zigs. Section ten was a lon g , steep hillclimb . The tract ion was supe r all da y for a gr eat tria ls happenin g . La Sierra, wh o was in second after the first rou nd , ca me ou t loaded for bear a nd had a team re all y up 10 go for it. Alt a Lorn a was just as eager to move up th e ladder and Arlington wa s really o n th e d efe nsive. Corona , a lways a schoo l 10 be reck on ed with had a su per night , endi ng th e even ing t ied with La Sierra with four wins a piece . J an et Gr isham was the star of t he Arli ngton team as she won ~ he Powder Pu ff Division . In fact Arhngton was th e only schoo l who had any you ng ladies on ha nd. Stacy Randall fin ished seco nd in . th e first moto but was ou t for th e rest of th e night after a ba d cra sh in the second round. Lani Ander son moved up a slot to pick up second aft ~r Randall was eliminated with Debbie Atchison third . The th ird moto saw the fin ish repeated with the . overall taking the sam e order. . Bobby Hart was th e utility man for La Sierra . picking uP .on e of th e t~~ double wins of th e night. It was Goat Br eker (KTM) wh o again proved to be a winn e r - even whe n wounded .
