; Road Race GP (Colll illIl Pd!rom Pfll{ P 6) match the closing laps effort from Bouzanne, who was gelling back into form after a serious crash in Finland at the end of last year. Sadly the rain was back for the 250cc race where two Kawasakis , ridden by Akihiko Kyohara and Barry Ditchburn filled first and third places on the practice leaderboard, and champion Walter Villa was second best! But th e weather didn 't spoil the race. in fact it made it! Walter Villa slow to get awa y was ahead of the pack at the end of the first lap , with Kyohara second. Pekka Nurmi, then " Finn on a Yamaha third. Christ ian Sarron, fourth . Kork Ball ington fift h _ a nd Leif Gustafsson sixth. Un lu cky Barry Ditchburn was already in trouble . the circuit was still like a skat ing rink . and he was forc ed to take to the grass at the treacherous Sachs curve at the end of that lap. It lost him a lot of ground. and he was never able to get back on terms with the leaders. The slippery track caught Villa out, 100 . H ,' slid off without injury at ' the first chicane on the third lap , and the race was wide open. Villa 's departure left Kyohara in the lead. but Sarron making the most of his weekend's leave from the army swiftly closed the gap. and on the seventh lap took the lead. Sarron used the drying track to his advantage, and 1 ,?~ned a. good lead. but the Kawasaki was qu icke r , and the Japanese newcomer almost judged his effort right, but though he had taken the lead when the pa ir appeared in the stadi um for the last time . Sarron outrode him in the S bend, and was far enough in front to hold off th e I superior acceleration of the Green Meaniel Third home was Uncini , apparently none the worse for his high speed Austrian GP tumble, and fellow coun tryman Venicio Salmi was fourth , just two seconds ahead of another thrilling battle. It had started as a six man dice.but it had been trimmed down to just three men at the flag. Pekka Nurmi beat Kork BaBington and Tom Herron to the line . Just two fifths of a second separated the trio, and for the latter half of the race they were going at it. One of those to miss out was Ger man cham pion Hans Schwe iger who took over the spare works Kawasak i_ due to have been ridd en by the injured Dieter Brau n .
