IAbove) Mike Garrison (12) held Visa lia 200 Main w inner Lee Pritcha rd at
bay - temporarily, (Below ) Dave Morris (14). Joh n Burnett 1171 and Steve
Boswell lead a 250 Expert heat throug h turn one at t he Visalia Qualifier.
When anyone has been knocked
that ha rd in t he head , it is hard ' to
ma ke them understa nd that they have
to keep sti ll. You never know how
serious the injuries are or if there a re
any internal inju ries.
Nothing will ever match the relief I
felt when the ambulance rolled up and
a couple of qualified nurses jumped
ou t. When th e nurse sa id m y buddy
was gonna be alright I finally sta rted
to feel a 1 bett er - he really had me
0l
worried for a wh ile .
The police asked a sea of questions
about how it happened , which bike it
was . was he wearing his helmet ? And
other s. The ambulance was on it s way
to the hospital and the police helped
me load th e bikes , and told m e they
would get a hold of m y buddy's
parents.
I learned a lot of things fr om this
experience , First aid is invaluable to
know and that I am going to rake ,a
course in such . Also, taking a n
inexperienced rider out riding requires
you to take it easy and not let them
out -ride themselves . Some newcomers
don't know wh en to quit trying . Keep
a close eye on a beginner who is riding
with you . Whenever unsure of t he
exten t of the injuries, kee p them quiet
unt il help gets there . It 's tough to keep
them quiet , but it's important.
I wou ld also like to express extreme
thanks to Bob Hamil ton , th e Boy
Scout lea d er who helped with his
knowl edge of first a id . My buddy will
spend three m on ihs in casts, bu t woul d
hav e been much worse off without the
help of Hamilton .
