In night racing at Irwindale Tim Lunde took home a first in the 250 Pro class and third in the 125 Pro CMC motos. East (KT M) made his bid for victory , but had to settle for second a head of Jeff Ritz (Hus) a nd Dirk H ou ghton (Hus). One of the most exciting races of the day had to be th e 250 Int erm ed ia tes. Dave Ohl (Suz), riding out of Redla nds Su zuki , and R ay McN eil (ass) from Nelsons in R iverside ha d some friend ly co m pe titio n in a ll three mot os. In th e first one, Ohl go t th e holeshot followed by Roy "Co wboy" Bu rton (Suz) . McNeil was in fifth pla ce, but quickly wor ked his way into thi rd and began to pressure Burton . In the mea nt ime , Ohl 's lead was growing. McN eil finally got arou nd Bu rt on and set his sights on O hl. In th e la ps remaining, McNeil slowly began to close on 0 hi , bu t th e checkered flag came out before he could ch a llen ge. Moto two was a du plicate of the first , wit h McNeil a nd Bu rt on d icing while a hi enjoyed _ g rea t lea d . . a McNei l once ag ain began to catc h up in the closing laps , bu t not enough . It was in the last rou nd tha t th e tab les turned . Kel Mcintee (KTM ) got th e ho leshot , but was qu ickly passed by both McNeil a nd .O hl. McNeil passed Oh l for th e lead , and th en th e two riders, who are ac tua lly good fr iends, started a battle wh ich left th e rest of th e pack far beh ind . McNeil led for most of the ra ce , u n til, with less than three la ps to go , Ohl saw a n open ing a nd put it to use. They stayed close right to the end of the race, bu t Ohl rema ined in fro nt . After the race , McN eil sa id "T hat was really a lot of fun!" Then he confessed , ". .bu t I wish I had won ." • Resu lts in Resul ts Section . T im Lunde (Ya m) fa ced a ve'ry to ugh class this evening but ca me out the winner and a lso cashed in with th e third place mo ney in the 125 Pr o class where he faced th e likes of Ga ry Denton and David T aylor. Chuck Lunde has stayed faithfu l to th e Maico and th ro tt led it to thi rd overall. Racing act ion fir ed off red hot in th e first moto a nd right away T im Lunde shot out with th e lead .
