The mud hole was the only place th at caused most riders to . lose po ints . Most of th e other lost points wer e ca used by com ing into th e chec ks ea rly . The unusually large number of zeros and low point scores m ade th e tie - br eaker check very im po rt a nt. In most classes a score hig her than three put you out of the trophies . The Lubbock T ra il Rid er s did an excellent job la ying o ut th e end uro as ' th ey usually do , and everyo ne enjoyed th emselves whil e visiting o n th e vast U· La zy-S Ranch owne d byJack Lon . The enduro consisted of three laps all returning to the camping area. The first loop was 34 .3 miles and first gas . The seco nd loop. which was ca lled the "sceni c" loo p . finished at 74.4 miles and the second gas. The women. 16 & Under and C classes finished at this point. The third loo p then separated t he m en from the boys. and the man who stood th e tallest at the end of th e 120.5 miles was Dick Bu rleson . who . lost j ust one point. T ed Worrel , T eam Su zuk i. was seco nd in th e 250 A class after Texas rid er Perry Davis ag reed to tak e third . a lthoug h he tied W orrel a t the tiebreaker. Cali forn ia r ider Mik e H annon b u rned t he final check byL ? minutes a nd was dis q ua lified . Phyllis Hayes of Ft. Worth , Texas . riding her ncw IT I 75S Yamaha. won Women 's A Class losing 10 poin ts followed closel y by her m oth er , Betty. with 14 po ints lost. Senior Men's Class was won by John Penton with J ack Moss. of Amarillo . Tex as a close seco nd . The overa ll B ri de r wa y J ay Lott one of the fin e yo ung rid er s devel oping in Texas . Ther e were 543 ent ries for th e event a nd 352 fin ish ed - whic h m eans some 191 fell by the wayside for o ne reason or another. It might be pointed ou t tha t t here was a large num ber of "C" riders entered in this event . T he "C" class has been a large d rawing card since installed a couple of years ago. I n addition to the Pe nt o ns , . Burleson . Snapp, etc. several local riders did turn in good rides - Perry Davis ( I I pts .), Ja ck Henry ( 12 pts .) , In th e " B" Class. Keith McKay of Amarillo lost 13 pt s. and Kenneth Worley of Carlsbad. N .M .lost 18 pts . R esults in Results Section. Lots of road sections were used to connect the woods sections at the Sun f lower Enduro. The local Sheriffs were in attendance " t o help, not hassle': _
