H ughes could n't get a hold on Selvey the second time and Rob led the m any di fferent sizes and types of b ikes in for the finish . Selvey lost second a fter lap one and Fred Parker was nex t in line fo r th e num ber two spot. Sych o Sig was a lso a returnee to the Gang in th e Amateu r class. Dop er Dave (C -A) led Sig through rhe mu ddy stuff unt il he lost his chain , giving Sig th e win . Reli a ble Miss Mike went 2-2 for second place. Petrified Pet e beat out Honky Herb for a t hird -p lace finish . It was no surprise whe n Ru ptured Rusty (Suz) went wire-to-wire in the Intermedia tes for first -pl a ce brass. Du Du Dan ( C~) a nd Kra~y Kit (Ya m) had GARDENA , CA , APR. 1 It was John Allison's night at Ascot, as the 1977 half mile season opened. He set the fastest time, 22 .30 seconds, then went onto win h is heat, the Trophy Dash and th e Main. W ith Novices no w restrict ed to single-cylinder 250s (g'bye road racing twins) we'll see a bigger variety of b r a n d s and cl ose r competit ion . Compared to previous years, whe n the ope ni ng night backgate would be in und a ted with Novices . this night there were only t h ree hea ts. The first one saw Mike Keensm an come out of th e scram b le th rou gh turns one and two firs t. foll owed by Danny Perk ins and Don Torto relli. Torto relli's engi ne tie d up, puttin g a~ end to h is effo rts for th e night, bu t Perkins and Keensm an went shu ffling first a nd seco nd betw een thm , with Dorothy Rowe in th ird . Rowe held on firmly to third until th e last lap when Mark Murray go t a wh eel in front and put her in th e semi . In th e seco nd heat W ayn e Rainey got a start that was out of sightIH e just blew them off with no contest and made his the fastest heat. Dave Faria won the third heat. Up came th e Juniors .
