APR. 3 AMC had a super turnou t a t Carlsbad and the-crowd enjoyed some ho t racing. The 125 Pros started the morn ing o ut a nd Ne lson W hitehill (Yam) fried it all th e way to ta ke th e firs t win of th e da y. Da vid King (Ya m) a nd Scott An derson (Ya m) battled it ou t u nt il King go t by. H e tried to ca tc h W hi teh ill bu t co uld not ge t near him a nd ha d to settle fo r seco nd wh ile Anderson too k third . In th e seco nd rnoto , Whitehill was still hot. H e took the holeshot and th en sta rted stretching ou t a lead whi le eve ryo ne else b attled it out. Dean Taylor OD) moved up to seco n d with som e hot rid ing . but Anderson zip ped by. He and Brian Mc Namara ( Bul) ripped it th e first la p . but Rh yan blasted by th em a nd stret ch ed out a lead . J oe Santich (Suz) mov ed into second wh ile Montague had problem s a nd was unable to get it together. Rhyan went on to win with .a 62 second lead over runner -up Santich , T he next tim e out McNamara got th e hol eshot b ut agai n Rh yan gOt cooking a nd left th e pack behind . Santich got by McNamara a nd went on to finish second . but again Rhya n was long gone . T he first moto of the O pen Pros saw Rhya n on a nother KTM wit h a smile a nd another win. whi le C huck Lanz a ro ne (Mai) took second . Allen Ortiz on his Ma ico took th ir d . In the second moto , Dave Gerig (Suz) who DNFd th e first mot a , sto le th e holeshot and never let anyon e by. Rh yan stuc k to Ger ig like glue waiting for the right time. bu t when it ca me. Rh yan wen t do wn , wasting his shift lever. When Rh ya n go t up . he was dazed a litt le and co uld not get going .
