MINI 105 : Pedro Perales. who placed
in three classes, rode his Yamaha to a
30 -yard win . Following the Ten-
nesseean were Clay Cauthorn (Yam)
and Jerry Surber, Jr. (Hon) , the
promoter's son and a pretty rapid kid.
IOOcc: Mike Walcott (Suz) appeared
to be opening up a good lead, but
Bobby Fannon (Hon) passed the
Texan and stro lled to a sizeable lead.

Mai co , Bob Cargo from Florida on a
Yamaha , a nd Bob Bittner form New
jersey on a Suzuki.

J ack T odd , leader-of. the Budda
Head Racing T eam , managed
two seco nd overall finishes in 250
and-Open classes a t Aztec Racewa y.
As th e 250 Expert class was ca lled to
t he ga te for th eir first mot o , Todd sa id
"Today I feel g rea t, and th e bik e is
running supe r."
T he gate dropped and it was a
sprin t (0 th e fir st co rner, with Todd
(Town &- Country Suzuki) pulling
ahead. Just as th e pa ck reached th e
corner, Arl o Englund ( Bill Thomas
Hu sky) sl ipped
under T odd .
Approa ching th e drop-away, Todd
again pulled up on Englund . Sid e by
side th ey lifted into the air. with
Engl un d out just a little bit farther
and holdi ng on to th e lead . Todd , no t
gi ving Englund room to breathe ,
staye d on his rear knobby. On the lon g
uphill it look ed like Todd's Su zuki
wou ld out-pull Englund's Husky.
bu t the hill wasn 't long enough Eng lu nd hung on .
As th ey a p p ro ac hed the ba ck
straight , Todd aga in made his bid,
th is time pulling up on Englund sideby-sid e. The p air rode into the off
camb er , and sud den ly T od d was
down . Before Todd regain ed his bik e ,
three rid ers had passed , and Englund
was long go ne . T odd ch a rged again
(only to find out later he sprained
three fingers) lap after lap , reeling in
riders to tak e second place, but never
aga in close to Englund .
Pl agued by stiff fingers in th e
second moto , Todd tried to hold off
Englund after a super start , but could
on ly manage another second.

Expert , class saw Roger
Smith (Vicke ry Yam) dart out into th e
lead in both motos, leavin g two more
second places to T odd. Later , T odd
co u ld n't Ret his glove off without help.
T he hand was swollen tw ice its size.
