The half mil e Mon ey race probably had the stra nges t turn of
events. Leading see med to be
the kiss of death. It was Mi ke
Minnig who jumped out ahead on his
'250cc single with Cra ig Armstrong
right behind him .· Armstrong would
hav e th e adv antage down the straights
with his big Harley a nd lose it to th e
quicker 250 t hrough th e turns .
T his game cont inue d for four la ps
and a ll of a sudden Minnig was out
with wh at was lat er di agnosed as a
broken clutch . Arm strong took over
th e' lead only to see it lost in one la p
when his m achine went sour. Tim
McWhorter mov ed up to take over the
fir st with Marti Halkola second and a
