CA . FEB. 20 Charles Welk (Suz) brought plenty of gas (some didn't) and flew the two 37·mile loops of EI Cajon MC 's race to finish with over a th ree minute overall lead. T he next finishers , Arnie Grunner (250 class winner). Finger , Eddy and Larsson were spread a minute apart, ahead of first Open Novice Ads it. Mike Stearns had mechanical problems and started about 15 minutes late. At the end of the first loop . Stearns was up to 56th out of the 100 starters. still some 16 minutes off the leaders' elapsed time. Slowed by still more unspecified difficulties . Stearns still managed first in his cla ss. More interest is showing in the Senior class . with 10 entered and over ha lf fini shing. District 58 doesn't have a powder puff class a ny more : but after much rumbling. the girls are coming back to mix it with the boys.
