They finished in that . order with Currie in third. The final mota had Dan off in first with Don In second. The lead switched . on the second lap as Don got by his brother and brought it on home. It was a valiant effort , but because of his first mota fourth . he cou ld do no better than second. short of his brother's score by on ly one point. Currie took third . Greg Sheets. who had done so well in the unattached 125 Pros, did his school proud as he took a clean sweep in the 125 Senior class' for Upland . and to add icing to the cake , Tim Hoover . ano ther Up land rider took second. Sheets then parlayed that win into another gra nd sla m in the 175 Senior class . It was ' again Hoover t hat followed him home a nd Bill Weber, also of Upland, picked up third . Poly was not to be shut out as they claimed wins in the 125 Novice class thanks to Ralph Norwood . T he 100 's rode one of ,t he tightest 'a nd fastest 45- minute tea m races of the day. They all ran together and whi le there was some super riding in a ll divisions; the Experts had everyone,on their toes . The team of John Whelchel and John O'Mara had a 'do or die " race going with the team of Stev e Schmitz and Jim Cote. All four rode Suzukis.. , Whelchel and O 'Mara took the lead , with Schmitz and Cote right on t heir tail. Literally , for 45 minutes. these guys were right there . Both teams had super fast pi t stops where they had to change armbands and rid ers.
