An invitational field of 24 top international road racers will partici pa te in a n American Mo torcyclist Association road ra ce event o n th e st reet of Lo ng Beach , California , Saturd a y, April 2. A Formula .One World Championship event will be contested at Long Beach on April 3 , Confirmed -e n rr ies reported by promoter Chris Pook indicate a talentladen 24 -man field will be on hand. Already confirmed are 1976 500cc World Champion Barry Sh eene of England ; two ' time AMA Grand National Champion Gary Nixon of Co cke ysville , Maryland, wh o fini sh ed seco nd in the World Priz e Formula 750 stand ings in 1976 ; and Gary Scott of Springfield , Ohio , 1975 AMA Camel Pro Series cha m pio n . Ra cing a t Long Bea ch is co nd u ct ed o n a 2.02-mile course o n bl ock ed-off downtown st ree ts . 'A n exh ibition motorcycle race was held with the 1976 Long Bea ch Grand Prix to prove the course's su itability for motorcycle road racing. Activit y for the motorcycle racers at Long Beach will begin with practice on the morning of Friday, April I , and quali fying will take place that afternoon , Final qualifying will be held on the morning of the race, but Frida y's time trials will determine the five -man front row regardless of faster times which might be posted during race-day qualifying. The 38 -lap race will begin at 3:30 p .m . on Saturday. With one ride , Schreiber rises to 13th in the 1977 FIM world champ ionship standings. Don Sweet , riding his third European appearance, was 19th in Belgium .
