Gum bmann holeshot the first round and led a co up le laps before his b ike broke . Gumbmann again got the lead in the second m oto and this time th e bik e ran. Rogers chased him all the way to t he white flag before getting an opportunityto pass when Gumbmann wen t too wide in a tu rn . FE B . 6 T he D-36 plate battle rages on among 61 Experts. Mini winners were Turlock's J eff Mason in a wire-to-wire first in the 100 Main a nd Stockton 's Bill Arbogast in th e 80 event. Tra cy Ha ys, aboard jorgy's Suzukis, cha llenged in both races but . was forced to sett le for seconds as both winners made no mistakes . Get offs a nd m echanical iIls eliminated Doug Chandler in both ra ces . ' , Max po in t getters were Alex Jorgensen (250) and Benny King (500). Jorgy did a buckin' bronco routine in the heat, returned to the semi for a second. He then outran Pro J u nior Ricky Graham . and plate men Mitch ' Davidson (riding a borrowed bike jand Sa l Hoffman in the main. King outdistanced p late men Don Taylor and Steve Bra nd t , then returned for the 20 la p , 15 man "King of the Po nd" race. ,Benny had his way today as his clos est cha llenger Jorgy (after working through the pack from t he seco nd row) sa mpled some more Pioneer soil at the end of the straight. _ Mik e Busby ( Ma rina ) and Brian Sanders (Modesto) topped the double mains of th e 125 Novices. beating ~o other co ntesta nts. Both men held off form er Min i Experts Kirk Brewer a nd Ku rt Strait in cl os el y contested victori es. Junior action featured first s by Rob Robinson (250) and T erry Adams ( 125). Robinson lat er loaned his bike to brother Buddy for the King event where 'su ccess also preva iled (th ird). Results in Results Sect ion . J A l'o: . 30 Another motocrossing Turner Pau l - and KTM-mounted Kipp Classen were th e sta ndo ut cash ' winners as warm weat her drew 420 riders to Hollister Hills' upper ranch . Turner put together a 2-1 score on th e 125 Pros , whil e Classen dominated th e 250 Pros both motos . Paul T u rne r. on a Kanemoro Racing Honda , lo oked super -fa st leading the first 125 moto , but co m ing up to hassle with Turner was Randy Kerslake on a Suzuki . The two battl ed ' bri efl y and Kerslake got by. Rick Stadtm iller , also on a Suzuki , fin ish ed th e moto in third . In m oto two Dan Geer y (a lso on one of th e Kanemoro H onda s) j u m pe d to th e po in t. Following close beh ind wa s Paul Turner. Aft er a bo u t two laps of mixing it up, Turner shot by Gee ry , who lat er lost his cha in . After that , Turn er wa s untouchabl e. Ri ck -Srad rrniler fini sh ed second and second overall : th ird went to Ra nd y Kerslake after a fourth place finish in . th e seco nd moto . In both 250 Pro races J erry Castillo (Suz) jumped out to the lead b ut on ly to be passed by hard-charging . Kipp Classen . Ca sti llo suffered flats in both motos and was never again a threat. , Pa ul Turner (this time riding a Suz uki) passed Castillo but could never get close to 'the streaking Classen . Bob Myers (Ma i) was thi rd . . In moto two, Cas tillo again pulled the start, but after a brief battle, Classen was again in the lead and long gone . But there was a battle shaping up between Paul Turner and Bob Myers . Coming down to the flag it was Classen first . with Myers second and Turner third overall . • . Results in Results Section . FLA. 32014 "Hangtown Hangover" The Sierra Old Timers Me of Sacramento will present the year's first Old Timers National Motocross on April 16 and 17 . They are. calling it jhe Ha ngtown Hangover , because it will be held at Plymouth , CA . the weekend after the famous Hangtown Classic (sponsored . by Dirt Diggers North on April 9 and 10). Old Timers and support classes for the "Hangover" will ride the same course as the pros. Old Timer entries will be accepted between February,15 and April I from rid er s 40 and over who are members of recogn ized O ld Timer clu bs. They will race in six m ot os. T h ree motos o n the first day (A pri l 16) will count for the team trophy; three on the second day will be for individual points. Support class will be provided by veterans - ~5 to 40 years old. who will ride two rnotos on each day. and sportsman races ' on Sunday for sons and daughters of old timers and veterans. Entry dates are the sam e for all support riders - Feb. 15 through April 1. Support class entries will be limit ed : early postmarks will determine entries.
