Newl y signed by Honda, Warren Reid (Hon), look ed to be a su re bet for taking top honors in the first moto of the 125 Pro race until he dropped it in the first turn. Reid , coming from dead las t place , had. to cra nk it on as though his life depended on it for him to fini sh first over leader Bri an Myerscough (SUI) a nd by th e fourth lap managed to force himself into seco nd place with the d istant Myerscough slowly losing ground . W ithin three laps of that point Reid had managed to overtake Myerscough and head o n to the ch eckered nag without th e slig htest pressure from anyone . In the seco nd moto Reid made sure not to make th e same erro r as in the first moto . From th e drop of the gate to the finish nag he was untouched and took th e overall win . Myerscough finished a distant second which earned him the second overall, with third overall going to Curtiss Tyree (Hon) . In moto one of the 250 Pros it was a battle between Team Honda's Marty Smith and Ha r ley -Davidson sponsored Marty Tripes. Tripes took the lead with Smith chewing at his rear fender for , about five laps unti l he managed to slip under him when Tripes' rear tire went na t and he dropped to tenth , Smith smoked on to an unchallenged first.
