Among these was FMF 's G regg Toyama. T oyam a seem s to be fast est of all lit tle-mentioned hotshoes, . proving it by taking two straight moto wins and the 125 Pro overall win , Toyama's wins came after some heavy dicing with teammate Willy Simons (FMF Yam) , Brian Myerscough (R&D Suz) , and T&M's Bruce McDougal. Chuck Lunde rode to a very consistant second overall after near ly every body but Toyama was held back by a poor moto finis hi ng. Just as Gaylon sta rted to stretc h it out a bit he fell to the ground , dropping to the very rear of t he pack , and finally DNF'ing the first moto . Yorba then led until the Factory Kawasakis of Jammin' Jimmy Weinert and Gary Sernics came roosting past. Weinert won th e first moto with pressure From Semics. Jeff Vid ic was t hi rd, Mike Yorba fourt h. The win ne rs from ea ch h eat went direct ly on to' th e m ain even t and three out of each sem i followed them to the fina l. J im Cessna (Suz) , was first in he at one , a nd T om Norris followed him on to the main from the seco nd he at race. Only th e first three riders in th e semi would be' luck y enough to join Cessna a nd Norris in th e line up for the main event, Tom Hughes led the first sem i and had a lot of breathing room . The battle was for third, with Ric Emmal in the fourth spot and try ing his hardest to work into third and cam a place in the main , bu t Scott Douglas. (Bul), wasn't about to let go of his transfer spot . Hughes. Ben Meyer , and Douglas took their place on the list for the.main event• On Iy three riders were left to transfer to the main. and Nonon Graham led the way in the second semi. Andy Bautista and John Diliaula were the final riders to make it to the 250 No vice m a in . In the main . Hughes maneuver ed h is Ossa int o th e front spot.
