The probability of one rid er being dominant in th e I2 5cc Ex pert ranks is still up for grabs as Scott Cude (Yam ) was the top man thi s week . Cude d id receive som e pressure from second pla ce man Bob Garrison but it wasn't enough to keep th e Yamaha pilot out of th e winner's circle. PORTERVILLE , CA . , FEB , 6 Not only did a la rger than usual cla ss of Open rid ers show at the Spinners AMA D-35 TT, but the thu nderi ng b ig bores also provided one of the better races of the d ay, The action started early behind leaders Bu d Sturgill (Yam) and Bob Stafford (BSA) as Rick Villane va (Ya m) stole third from Bob Young on lap one only to crash a few seconds later . Young started closing on seco nd place Stafford and took the position in the sweepe r of la p two , Final lap , and Young was now closing on leader Sturgill . Side by Sid e th rough the sweep er. Young pulled ahead and edged out Sturgill at the line. mot o winner Ma rk Gregson out of Kaw City was protested down to a fourth in the second moto but sti ll held on to second overall. Gary Potts (Suz) posted the protest - sta ting he was pushed off the track in the right back tum . Potts was awarded a second in moto two and third overall. Chuck Sun (Hus) led th e Open Pro competition with a clean 1·1 win for G and N Cycle Mart . Winter Series points leader Mark Gregson (Kaw) put up a 5-2 for the second spot. Yamaha -mounted Joel Straub of Kent scored a rnoto I -I for a Mini Junior overall, 'S tra ub has earned half the necessary points for Expert classification just one month into the racing year. John Spooner (Yam ) with a 2-3 , took the second overall, Terry D. Baker from Springfield, O regon got mixed up in the crowd that stopped to check out the tower jump on the opening of rnoto one and scored too far down to get it together. Baker ca me back with a seco nd p lace ride next m oro , Lee Voss on a Pa ulson's Suzuki ro de 3-1 for top 125 Pro. Voss passed "mild mannered" Marv Sykes in both. m otos - givi ng Sykes a 4 -2 for second overa ll.
